I am hidden at work with my laptop, so I will not make long novel here, but :)

Did not 4 hours of sleep, in long term, reduced your entire performance? you do know it is far too little of sleep?

Of course, with time you will need more and more to regenerate, I think it is really really godd it is eight hours now.

Maybe I over reacted with my national studio, but I just wanted to compare. They do amaze me. And you seem to know a lot about them too.

Witcher 2 on XP? I had it on XP to, and it hunged at the moment when I cause by destroying her nests to fight Kikimora. Even when I had all the options off.. and 800X600!!! it will move in slow motion.

I have Geforce GT 240, but one core processor..

I did not know you have played 2 :) I think you did not tell me :) and the books Sir the books! :) Playing 2 at first, will not make very big difference at your case, I gave you strong background :)

And here some new news :)

More when I come out of shadows ;)

Terrific developer interview. Full of key insights on game design. I especially appreciated what they shared about their re-vamped combat mechanics and the related concerns over crossing the threshold of information overload. Unlike the retail WZ, which was without a doubt an unfinished game that tanked within 3 months with quite a few essential but curtailed components, Witcher 2 was a polished and highly sucessful game that they still had the mind-set to improve upon. That's good to hear. Drives me batty to hear that WZ's unfinished or curtailed GPMs of 14 years ago are just wonderful as is and in need of no perfecting.

And, of course, all those Witcher 3 screens make you wish you could jump into that world right now. :)

I play Witcher 2 on a Quad Core mobo with 2 SLI parallel processing Nvidia GPU board's. Runs great. 3 should run fine too I would think. :hmm:

I have to admit it is quite empty without you around Sir :3

When you come back take a look at this :)

Gentlemen, Bio Shock is no longer the same game, and I think it is to be outstanding :3

I am glad to hear :)

And speaking about Bio Shock, I have started playing the first part the day before yesterday, and it is so cool. I also do not recommend to play it at night with headphones :P I almost died from fear few times. Also this sounds of wood cracking under water, here there and everywhere, is simply great.

Thought your biggest challenge woulda been condensing all the resources. Second only to having them seriously entertain a contrary point of view, which would fall to your persuasion skills as much as the evidence, which is plentiful already, seems like. Then again if you are up against a True Believer disposition then even mad persuasion skills combined with overwhelming evidence will not sway to even consider the truth of an alternate point of view.

All right then, Mero, I re-read the thread to make sure I correctly remembered your mission..

Let me re-state my understanding to make sure I have it right.

You are trying to marshal objective evidence to convince your relatives in Chicago that gaming is strictly NOT either of the following:

1.) A waste of time & resources better allocated in other investments.

2.) Certain type of GPMs can exasperate pathologies with explosive RL violence.

Is that the gist of it ?

That was my take on the first post. He wants to win the arguement that games are not bad m'kay.

Anyway, there are a lot of examples of both violence in games and the affects games (or mostly modding games) has led people into very prosperous careers in the game industry. This does not include other more social games such as puzzle and educational games. It has been studied how some console games can increase hand/eye coordination in young children.

I believe that there have also been studies that show there is very very little truth that violent video games have a negative impact of the majority of children and even a majority of children with mental illness.

Besides, if games are so horrible why are there so many being created and used by schools, the military and R&D outfits?

On the flipside, games can be abused and end in negative social behavior just like anything else (ie tv). I have two young kids that play age appropriate games and i have found nothing wrong with it. As they get older they will play games that will probably become more violent in nature as they get older. As long as they realize what is real and what is fake there isn't a problem. Though I hope they stick with more mentally demanding games rather than a mindless frag fest.

I remember reading somewhere that some universities started using SimCity and Neverwinter Nights in classes for some reason.. I think modeling social interactions or managements skills... something. There is a lot of information out there if you search for it. Would probably make a small book from the view points of both sides.

Gentlemen :)

Thank you for your posts :3 I not necessarily want to win the argument, I doubt it is even possible as their attitude is rather like "yes yes, poor player, young man overtaken by the evil of games and some connected evil notions, generalli all bad is because of the games"

I want to show the how little they know. And I know they know almost nothing, their daughter is thirteen years old. Have no mobile fone, and is on no group in the internet. I think it is very possible she has never played a computer game even if it was "Pony Dresser 5" ;) So here phenomenon is amazing I think, especially due to the fact that Roman stated, they live in Chicago. Her parents use mobile only when necessary and only then. I do not state it is bad, I want to state how evil games could be in comparison to that ;)

I also know they like to follow blindly political or religious leaders of Poland, who when a man who has his login and password written and glued to his laptop, not to forget, shouts "Games are evil, this is why our society is so bad" they run around Chicago and shout as well. About this politican guy and his password, it is true story.

My general aim is to provide them data with the easiest and explanatory description. Both for and against ones.

As I simply cannot stand this blindness of their. It is like, hey Radek, earth is flat. No Bobo it is an enormous globe. No it is flat cant you see?

When they will see al lthe material, maybe a little rim of enlighment will appear. ah, and all games are about killing if one asks. I know there are, about 90%, but steal Dear God.

Damn I feel anger :)

Bye :)
