change port 2100 to port 80

Post by Originway »

why doesn't warzone use port 80 instead of port 2100?
I read that port 2100 is being blocked by many ISPs now.
Port 2100 is known to have vulnerabilities caused by trojans and remote code execution.
Because protocol TCP port 2100 was flagged as a virus (colored red) does not mean that a virus is using port 2100, but that a Trojan or Virus has used this port in the past to communicate.

port 80 is generally use for web server and would cause problems for anyone trying to run the game and run a web service at the same time. This doesn't include the fact that many ISPs frown on anyone using port 80 anyway due to the above reason (web hosting).

Why don't we allow changing the port in the config file, and make the lobby server publish the port together with the address, and make it possible to set the port in the ip connect window?

why? what is the point is being able to change the port? Why take the frustration create by the player base when many of them (notably windows users) will probably break something trying to figure it out.

Not worth it I say

As for port 80 I use it already
As for changing the ports many already did the hard task and set up the 2100 port forwarding why change it now to just mess the system up again.

port 80 is always open so I thought it would be easier to just use that?

port 80 is default for all web services. Not a viable option.

Yep.
It doesn't matter what port it will be, since people will always have trouble trying to open it. UPnP don't work for all, and, there isn't really that much we can do about it.
I don't know of any port that is always open, that isn't already used by something important.

I have thought of allowing people to do custom ports though, I am just not sure of the demand for it.
