IMHO they'd look better without the paper part.

It's obvious they relate to the list regardless, due to their position above the list and the list being the only logical thing on the screen that they could apply to.

What I was referring to with regards to the filter option, is that while the funnel is a well recognised icon for depicting "filter" (although if you think about it, a funnel doesn't filter water, it just changes the rate of flow, so I've no idea why a funnel became the widely adopted icon for filtering stuff...), it does not in itself give any indication as to which metric is being filtered - it could be ping time, map name, etc. Thus, adding a page background to the icon still doesn't give any indication on which metric is being filtered. However, as there is only one filter available people will quickly work it out from the tooltip I guess. If more filters become available at a later date, some distinction would be required in the icons.

an icon, for triggering a complex function or an easy one u cant always find a self explanatory graphical representation for the function. one can only explain so much with an icon, if u want 10 different icon which all filter something else... much luck, i will be very impressed if u come up with a solution...

i also dont need the paper behind the icons, but in my humble opinion, the refresh and filter icon that duda made are very easy to understand, which doesnt surprise me, because those symbols are pretty much standard... ever tried googling filter icon?

ps.:

Code: Select all

a funnel doesn't filter water, it just changes the rate of flow
my guess is it comes from the coffee filter which IS filtering the liquid and the grain ^

I can do it but I don't know how to set up a vote in a forum topic... Do you want a new topic and I'll put the images in opening post?
