Host quit, automatic win to opposing team

Post by Rommel »

automatic win to opposing team and also keep the game data so you can see who was playing and what their scores were etc etc. Host quitting in MP is a major letdown at the moment and needs to be addressed. thanks! This I know is possible (the win I mean) cause sometimes when a host quits my units are still in his base and even after the host is gone I see the win come up after I have blown up his last factory / truck / unit

REally I would like to see the ability to have WZ run on a dedicated server so that games were all played on the server as opposed to relying on the (often) shoddy connections of users... this would be a priority item in imo.

I know a dedicated server is expensive, but I am pretty sure we could all get together and raise the cash.

A server is an ongoing recurring expense -- while it might be possible to get some cash to get it up and running, that cash would need to keep rolling in to keep the server alive.

Maybe if the server code was developed and released as open source, members of the community could set up their own servers with the central lobby being able to see a list of all servers currently online.

Yes I agree, from what I have seen from other games this will happen, people will set up servers. I used to play Tribes Vengeance before it died and there was always 5-10 servers and this was a dead game for 5 years or so and the servers only disappeared when they shut down the master server. I really think a priority should be put on the MP aspect of WZ, this is where the game will thrive.

Oh and also does the server need to be dedicated, what about an Amazon Ec2 instance? I had one of these running for like $20 per month and this had every thing a dedicated server had - the bandwidth may increase, but maybe we could have like clans running there own servers and not have it all on just one - maybe an official instance running say 3 or 4 games continually. WZ doesn't seem to be intensive in bandwidth requirements and much of the processing could remain with the client computers.

From what I have heard one of the main obstacles at the moment is bringing sanity to the GUI code, if this could be resolved then the social aspect of the game could be fully evolved. It would be nice to have a fully extendable so that people could mod it and create apps and such. The game could really take off if it is given a more social aspect, with things like ladders and a better ranking system for players and such. Probably getting ahead a bit here, but the foundations to this would be dedicated server support in some fashion as well as an easily extendable GUI / Lobby system.

wz2100 has so much potential, it's an amazing game and can really take of in the mature gamers market - as I have gotten older I just can't really be bothered with the cookie cutter FPS games and things like WOW anymore, they just don't do it for me - WZ though is a different story, I really find this game to be enjoyable and I don't get bored with it.

PS I should offer my services here, been a fulltime web app developer for over 10 years now lol mainly LAMP and Javascript UI stuff with ExtJS and JQueryUI so I wouldn't be very useful for the C? that WZ is written in, but if the GUI gets put into a markup / JS type format I could be of use :)
