Faster Research

Post by blobBIT »

Hi! I'm new in the forums and this is my very first post, just to let you know :)

I tried to search forums for a mod which would reduce research times. But because I did not find one, I'm going to make my own.
How can you do this? I know that you must do a seperate folder for a mod and modify some values in research.txt (or in some other text file) But I have no clue what the different values mean and where is the research time.

I'm quite bad in game modding and/or coding in general. Well I can handle HTML pretty well, and I know also some basics from C++ and some other very basic stuff but that's about it. I hope it's enough.

I also have some other great ideas for mods for later... So some general help is also welcome.

There might be some info in the wiki: http://developer.wz2100.net/wiki/TxtEdi ... earchStats

Don't bother with changing research.txt .

If you want to increase the speed without affecting the cost, there is only 2 lines in function.txt that need an edit :

Research,Research Facility,14
Research,Research Module,12

Just double the values and see by yourself. :)

Remember to never edit directly your game stats ! Do a copy and load it as a mod.

Thanks, I will try that soon!

Okay, a quick question: Where are the weapon icon pictures located?

AFAIK they are 3d pie files, as for where they are :?:
In general, if you see glowing, pulsating things in the game, you should click on them.

I think they're located in misc/reserachimds/*.pie from vague memory

Some share pies with weapons and the like I think. If that is so there would be others scattered around.

@blobBIT -- when you were asking where "weapon images" are, did you mean those shown on research topics, or those shown in general - eg. droid designer, build menu, etc? It's prolly best to get a pie viewer and just go browsing through the numerous pie files (although I don't know how that stuff works fully so can't help much more on that front -- maybe ask in artwork forum?)
