Minefields, submarines, NBC

Post by Grrr »

Would it be a good idea to have minefields (seen by team members only), gas weapons that allow units to become stealable, submarines, rail networks and underground nuclear proof bunkers and perhaps biological weapons?

Minefields were implemented at one point: https://warzone.atlassian.net/wiki/disp ... edia/Mines

Gas weapons to make units stealable sounds like what the Ordos faction had in the Dune games. In Warzone, the equivalent is the Nexus Link turret: http://guide.wz2100.net/w/nexuslinkturret

Submarines haven't been tried yet, but there are plans to add ships, possibly in Warzone 3.2? viewtopic.php?f=30&t=9115&hilit=ships#p97663 -- the main issue at the moment is that with hovercraft there's little point in having ships. But on vast water maps, especially if deeper water can be created, naval vessels might become more useful. And if naval vessels become useful, submarines could follow.

As for rail networks, there's been some discussion on that recently but without a distinct benefit to gameplay it's unlikely they'd be developed. viewtopic.php?f=30&t=8532 -- personally, I'd love to see trains as they could open up some interesting storylines for custom campaigns. However, considering there's no "resources" (other than magically distributed oil/power) what would go on the trains? You can already ship droids around using transports, so trains would only make sense for eye candy or storyline.

Underground bunkers - there's already some 3D models for those: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=8949&hilit=silo#p96429 -- they don't really do anything though.

As for bio weapons, most droids are remotely controlled (ie. unmanned) so bio weapons would have little effect on them. viewtopic.php?f=30&t=5598 -- from memory the only droids that would have humans in them are transports and possibly VTOLs. That being said, initially cyborgs are manned, even with the development of Synaptic Link tech: https://warzone.atlassian.net/wiki/disp ... transcript -- but later they are remote controlled by operators in immersion tanks back at base: https://warzone.atlassian.net/wiki/disp ... transcript

@Originway: I can produce wiki content faster on Confluence than I can on Trac wiki. So far I've created several hundred pages of content on that other wiki in less than a year -- it would have taken me several years to do the same on Trac (particularly in terms of layout, lists, media assets, etc). Also, I needed a place that had very good auto-suggest search box because I constantly refer to the content -- that alone saves me several hours a week.

Note: The Confluence wiki seems really slow if not logged in (no idea why) -- it's much faster if you create an account on there, even if you don't plan on contributing. *note to self: must moan to Atlassian about slow anonymous page load times*
