Warzone spelling/phonetic alphabets

Post by aubergine »

For some unknown reason I decided to make phonetic/spelling alphabets for the various factions in Warzone -- here's what I came up with:

Scavengers

Completley ficticious spelling alphabet. Favours humor over accuracy, plus some hat tips to Mad Max films...

"Apple", "Beer", "Chopper", "Dune", "Ear", "Fear", "Gasoline", "Humungus", "Idaho", "Junk", "Roadkill", "Lobster", "Max", "Knob", "Oil", "Pie", "Quack", "Rust", "Starbuck", "Tip", "You", "Video", "Wez", "Wife", "Yeti", "Zebra"

The Project

Based on a mixture of greek alphabet (based on in-game messages, eg. "Team Gamma"), several phonetic alphabets and some custom words. Assumption being that Project are a diverse group of people...

"Alpha", "Beta", "Chicago", "Delta", "Epsilon", "Felix", "Gamma", "Halo", "Iota", "Jinx", "Kappa", "Lambda", "Mirage", "Nuke", "Omnicron", "Pi", "Quebec", "Rocky", "Sigma", "Theta", "Utah", "Violet", "Wyvern", "Xenon", "Yeti", "Zulu"

New Paradigm

Based on Western Union phonetic alphabet: http://www.osric.com/chris/phonetic.html
This is the one I'm least happy with - any suggestions welcome ;)

"Adams", "Boston", "Chigago", "Denver", "Easy", "Frank", "George", "Henry", "Ida", "John", "King", "Lincoln", "Mary", "Nuke", "Ocean", "Peter", "Queen", "Roger", "Sugar", "Thomas", "Union", "Victor", "William", "X-Ray", "Young", "Zero"

The Collective

Ficticious spelling alphabet with transhuman / religious / misanthrop undertones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transhumanism

"Assemble", "Bionic", "Cleanse", "Digital", "Eugenic", "Future", "Genetics", "Holistic", "Immortality", "Justice", "Knowledge", "Longevity", "Machine", "Nano", "Omniscient", "Progress", "Quantum", "Reason", "Singularity", "Transformation", "Utopia", "Virus", "Warrior", "Xenophobe", "Yield", "Zero"

Nexus

Dr. Reeds early work would have been at a time when the US Military was still part of NATO, so they would use the ICAO spelling alphabet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICAO_spelling_alphabet

"Alpha", "Bravo", "Charlie", "Delta", "Echo", "Foxtrot", "Golf", "Hotel", "India", "Juliet", "Kilo", "Lima", "Mike", "November", "Oscar", "Papa", "Quebec", "Romeo", "Sierra", "Tango", "Uniform", "Victor", "Whiskey", "X-ray", "Yankee", "Zulu"

---

What do you think? Any ways I could make them better?

I've been mulling over the idea of creating a factions mod (not until next year though) so I've been pondering how to give each faction it's own unique personality. I've got an embryonic Factions API under development, if anyone wants to know more let me know.

Yup, couldn't resist. I imagine scavs would be about the complete opposite of politically correct corporate so things like that would certainly make it in to their spelling alphabet.

"Hex?"... "No! X as in Wife you fool! Get yourself a better CB radio!"

I dread to think what chaos would result from Beer, Ear and Fear over a crackly CB radio...

"Was that B or E?" ... "B as in Beer!" ... "Ok, E as in Ear... wait, that doesn't make sense!" ... "BBBB as in Beer" ... "Yes, EEE as in Ear.. still doesn't make sense!!!!"
