Multiplayer - Warzone Site Searching Engine Implied

Post by Merowingg »

Hello Gentlemen :)

Mero sits and thinks and siths and thinks, if not making a map or millions other things and here I bring yet another idea :3

What about allowing players to wisit our website while in Game, or especially Multiplayer Game? A special window with tabs, which would allow in easy and friendly way check what is on our website at present, read posts, news and so on. Something like searching device on Steam, with the restriction, to be used for The Page only?

As a result poor hostin man at 4 a.m. lets say european time, can sit in his lobby room, and read things on the page meanwhile, time passes, players appear, he is up to date with the forum. all are happy.

I got nobel prize.

Think about it, the easier entrance into website from game, the better fo us all.

In lobby, good idea. In game.. not so much. An in game browser works in EVE due to player downtime such as trying to auto-pilot 10 jumps in a slow moving transport. Doesn't fit into a constant click fest RTS unless you can pause the game to look things up or chat.

Now, a built in irc chat box might work well as it should not need very much space in game but i don't think beyond inside the lobby a web browser would go well with the action. My thoughts anyway...

*EDIT* Related thought.. You could have a small box that could pop up with new threads or able to create new threads but I would now go beyond something more than a short, simple twitter style sample, say under 250 characters. Beyond that would require a larger box and become that much more of a distraction.

Tell us why you can't do that now.

Lord Apocalypse I like your ideas, and I am not aware of any technical dificulties, but things you have suggested sounds good.

NoQ becuse he would be three days after that time he reads the forum. And again I think the easier accessibility to the forum, the more movement here, the better always for us. And he waits, so he can read our things meanwhile, not looking at the lobby room checking it every detail unconsiously thousands of times, or he maybe do not open any internet tab, but being given the warzone tab, he maybe let us hope more likely read us, as he already decided to play the game of ours.

There is definite merit to the notion that only a slim minority of WarZone players actually visit the website for anything other than upgrading to the next version, if that.

A locked browser element pointing to the WZ2100 website, forum, wiki, etc. would certainly be a plus.

Nice idea Merowingg.

Exactly, some players when I played MP were even surprised that there is a forum section. The others asked me about website where they can find "research results"

Simply as mentioned, the biggest stream go through the page then certainly better for us. The tab, or whatever it is, should be really eye-candy and good visible, so a player would willingly click it, and that is what we want.

I think they might be pulling your leg. I’ve never been asked were the forum or search is. I click on Forum as I would any other website and I do a search as I would any other website. The layout follows a standard it seems that most websites have as where Forum and Search are placed. So I don’t understand why Forum or Search would be a problem. I have however been asked were the website is for support. The link is clickable at the bottom of the opening screen of both the 2.3 and ver 3.1 versions of Warzone.

So I think the link Warzone already provides on the opening screen is sufficient, but it could be made larger so its more noticeable. Also there are many that play this game that do not speak or read English, so a clickable link in the download section for addons would be beneficial to them.

As far as being in a room and browsing as this thread suggests I strongly discourage that. Surfing or multitasking on the internet while a host is trying to get a game started is not a good idea as it will make your ping possibly fluctuate and it may result in the player getting kicked since they don’t see the host asking them to fix their ping because they are busy doing something else. This already happens actually and is a huge problem. The players that do read what the hosts says are able to fix their ping by simply closing all other internet activity.

An integrated IRC chat box would work providing it was mandatory that you log into IRC in order to play a multiplayer game. If not then its the same thing we have now.

Very interesting points Sir.

For me still, any things that flashes before, or after the game are colourfull goos mostly. I will not gave names of companies the logos I live to hear and see, but according to me, the ending flashing screen is still not enough. If cliccking on the name would allow to go ti the website directly, it would be ok.

Yes managing a horde of players sometimes requires excellent skills.. but what if the website shorcut stops to work, when half of the room is filled with players? so we have, 1, 2, 4, 5 players situation, on appropriate maps, and problem solved. I agree any divece of purpose stated in this thread, should be thought throug very wisely especially considering the points you have gave us.
