Re: What happened to aubergine's Warzone 2100 Wiki?
So now, what do we, the community, do? Personally, if it wasn't for aubergine's work on documenting all that stuff on the Wiki, especially all that JavaScript stuff, I may not have been able to complete work on my 1st Contingency mod beta in as solid as it was when the 1st beta was released.
We could try to give the Warzone 2100 site's wiki a major overhaul when it comes to organization and documentation, adding various categories to aid in navigating through the site, and updating all the information. Or if there isn't enough functionality to make it practical, we could set up a new Warzone 2100 Wiki on Wikia. (I used to work on the Terraria Wiki back when it was less than a year old, enough to earn the #7 spot for achievements on that wiki, so I have quite a bit of experience with writing up and organizing articles, though I have never been an admin or bureaucrat on a Wikia site before.)

Re: What happened to aubergine's Warzone 2100 Wiki?
But why aren't we trying to figure out what made him be so much hurt to leave the community and deletehis most appreciated work?
I mean he is not a troll or anything. If I, for example, where to stop visiting here it's not a big loss, but he, on the other hand, was loving this community and the game so much he gave everything he can!
Do we really feel that our first concern is how to recover the wiki?

Not at all. In fact, I'm trying to figure out why he left as well. I don't think he's a troll either.
Man, I wish that he could come back and tell us what's really been happening.

Me too...
I feel there is something really deep that hurt him in a soft place, because otherwise he wouldn't be so dramatic. And if this is the case, then it is something worth investigation...

Why..?
He freely chose to leave, to quit. He freely chose not to speak plainly to it. He freely chose not to explain the re-setting of the wiki which not only contained all the great WZ work he did but also hosted the WZ work of others. That's all clear enough.
Why..?
What could be the rational, constructive, reason that would explain the foregoing set of decisions and acts..?
Try as I might, and mightily have I tried, I've yet to come up with one.

Re: What happened to aubergine's Warzone 2100 Wiki?
Maybe it's not significant enough, but the contrast between the amount of work and effort he made, and how much he loved the project to the sudden of his leaving is not casual.
There could be lots of reasons, and maybe it doesn't matter at all, but it's sounds like an indicator for something deeper then just having enough of the game.
The actions he choose to do are a message. He could have just stop being active.
Anyway, maybe it's me who is still in shock and need to learn to let go...

I too think the reason not trivial.
But unless aubergine himself chooses to shed light on the matter there is no other option but to let go the mystery of it all and get on with what tangible, personal, satisfaction there is in exploring our interests in WZ and sharing our experiences along the way if that too we find rewarding in it self.

Re: What happened to aubergine's Warzone 2100 Wiki?
Well, I decided to start up a new Warzone 2100 wiki on Wikia to help make up for this. It's a shame that aubergine's wiki had to end up like it is now, though all we can do now is to rebuild and move on.

I guess you're right.
Nice wiki, by the way, but I think the mix of so many blue stuff really confuse my eyes...

Re: What happened to aubergine's Warzone 2100 Wiki?
This is the reason why I had suggested that any documentation be added to the wz2100.net website itself, rather than have it hosted some place else. Something like this had happened before as well. But of course, the loss of all of Aubergine's documentation happened way sooner than I had anticipated and it was very unexpected.
He must be having some rather serious matters to attend to (We could go on speculating forever what the reason could be). Locking the wiki must have been an attempt at thwarting any temptation at spending time in pursuing it further. I doubt that his quitting from community has anything to do with anything or anyone related to WZ.
But one thing's for sure though, his work and his enthusiasm were one of the few most impressive ones that I have ever seen in WZ in the time that I have spent here. He even had it licensed under GPL or one of the other freedom licenses, can't remember which one.
I would like to suggest to anyone who would be interested in documenting anything to consider adding it to the wiki section of this website. Like how NoQ (mapping tutorial) and many others have and if necessary releasing it under a license(?).

Yeah, aubergine 's wiki was awesome and it had all type of information
But it probably is lost
Btw,

Btw,
For starting, it looks very good. But can it be modified by anyone? Or just registered users?Shadow Wolf TJC wrote:Well, I decided to start up a new Warzone 2100 wiki on Wikia to help make up for this. For now, I think it can be modified by anyone, regardless of whether or not they're registered, though I'm still in the process of setting it up.

Re: What happened to aubergine's Warzone 2100 Wiki?
Again the off site storing of warzone info idea shows up ....why cant you use the wz2100.net wiki
Like i said before whats wrong with maintaining the already wz2100.net wiki http://developer.wz2100.net/wiki/WikiStart
There is so much already there why spread it out to off site projects that someone else has control of and if you piss on their parade they ban the use of it like what just happened.
Like some one said before it has happened in the past and it will happen again.
My two cents worth.
