Key events in Warzone history?

I'm putting together a timeline (yes, another one) but this time about the game itself and the community / companies around it.

Many years have obvious highlights - like Pumpkin shutting its doors in 2000, and the source liberation in 2004.

But some years I'm struggling with, and could use some input from people who were around at the time...

How I'm reading aubergine is that the timeline will be crowdsource deved in this thread then at some point it will go into his WZ Cyclopedia wiki and could also be transfered to this sites wiki. If mistaken in that reading I'm sure I'll be set straight.
