Stupid map making questions from Aubergine

Post by aubergine »

Let me start by saying that I can't make maps to save my life. Not yet anyway...

I want to have a go at map making but have much to learn. Some things I can learn by looking at other maps and information in this forum, but there will be many things that will not make sense to me. As a result, I intent to ask lots of "stupid" questions as I learn how to make WZ maps. I am going to document everything I learn in the wiki in the hope that it will be of use to others who have been considering making maps but were afraid to do so!

So, on to my first stupid question...

What does the "c" mean in map filenames? Eg. 10c-whatever.wz I know what all the other bits mean, but the "c" bit after number of players has me stumped! I thought it might mean "Challenge" but then it would only apply to challenge maps, yet I see all Skirmish and MP maps also use this convention. :hmm:

I would have to agree with RJ as Combatant tho it could have been just a letter someone added for the hell of it.

Also the only stupid question, is the one you have but never ask, besides I have heard them all in my days. I still have hundreds of maps people sent me to look at and comment some good and some not so good and others not even worth talking about.

I've looked at your map work in that other game. I've no doubt you will be one of the finer WZ map makers once you get going in earnest. :3

Lol, no problem. Phones do tend to have limitations. :3

The reason I asked about the "c" in map file names, aside from being terminally inquisitive, is because the map submission guidelines state it has to be there so I assumed it had some special meaning...

The C letter of course stands for.. Creator :P oh no wait.. Consequences, as each map has consequences while we play them :P

Well, as there's no official explanation, I'm going to propose that the "c" stands for Cartography - the art of map making. Everyone agreed?
