map layout ideas for new maps

Been thinking about ways to layout maps that might be a bit different than other maps already made. Don't know how easy, complicated or feasible it would be but:

I am not sure if anyone has already made a map that looks like an "X" or a "Y" or other such shapes, but that might be neat. Some type of walls, barriers or defenses might be needed so the base in the middle does not get destroyed so quickly. :roll: :lol2:

Another idea: Maybe a map where each base is isolated completely, so that no land or water based vehicles can get out of your base area. This would mean players must use air power to fly out and attack and to transport engineers out of your base, to get to other places in the map.

I never saw a map like an "Y", but I saw someones like an "X".
And about the idea of islands where you have to use VTOLs, there exists one. (but you can make an asymmetric one :wink: )

These were just some ideas that popped into my head. I don't design maps, but was thinking if any map makers wanted some ideas, I'd post these.

Also not sure exactly how many maps there are for WZ2100, doesn't look like there is one complete list as far as I know...? Don't know how many I'm missing. O_o :)

Such map quickly become repetitive and skewed into either turtling (in FFA) or full scale truck rushes (in team) because there is only one point of interest (the center).
Heretic 2.3 improver and proud of it.

Ummm, sort of, ummmm... now I confused myself. :lol2:

As you point out Iluvalar, Cockpit is X shaped. What I am thinking is a pure "X" shaped map. Example picture:

The red areas in that picture would not exist (you would not be able to cross those red areas by land, sea or air. The only way you could travel and move around would be in the white "X" area. Bases and anything else that can be built would only be able to be put in the white areas also. So if someone were to make such an "X" map, the base in the center could have some walls and/or defenses to give the person using the middle base a bit more of a chance to survive, since the other players will have to always go by that center base to get to the other bases. :lecture: Did I totally confuse everyone now? :P :wink: Or maybe the center base could be raised up like in the pyramid-like maps that have already been made. My idea is that an "X" shaped map would be for 8 players. :)
