This already exists and was avaiable if you ran the game in (debug/cheat?) mode.
Only worked for SP mode though.

I wonder if drive mode is still there.

It was in retail release. Incomplete and crippled in the PC version and fully deved and quite fun in the PSOne release. Chojun had some practical approaches to its mature development in the PC version and Elio posted a graphic mock-up in these bbs a few years ago that was exciting.
