It's a wonderful life, to be so blessed. I was naturally creative long before I could try to explain anything about it. And the only reason I was motivated to explain was to teach youngsters in my family circle... and later, outside that circle.

A point of clarification. Spurred by a private conversation, I will just reproduce my side here.
.....I agree you can't learn creativity from a book. But you can be inspired to act.

Creation always comes down to action. So does deep learning. So does developing any talent.

It's been demonstrated that it takes 10,000 hours* of deep practice to develope a gift to a world class level.

It's also been demonstrated that to wanna do that 10,000* hours you need ignition, you need fuel, to sustain the passion and that comes down to whatever sets your imagination on fire, whatever deeply inspires you, to keep going.

When I make a map, I have a VERY little and simple idea of what I'm going to make, and when I make it I just make the details. For example, in my second map I first tought about making a huge city whit an airport and factories. While I was making it, I had the idea of adding cliffs around the map, a park, a river, etc. I hope that helps. :)

Improvisation. A very powerful state to create in. A wonderful and enjoyable experience if you have the guts and the chops to go for it. :)

One of my favorite forms of improvisation has a name and tradition in art. It's called "Bricolage".
Bricolage ( /ˌbriːkɵˈlɑːʒ/ or /ˌbrɪkɵˈlɑːʒ/) is a term used in several disciplines, among them the visual arts, to refer to the construction or creation of a work from a diverse range of things that happen to be available, or a work created by such a process. The term is borrowed from the French word bricolage, from the verb bricoler, the core meaning in French being, "fiddle, tinker" and, by extension, "to make creative and resourceful use of whatever materials are at hand (regardless of their original purpose)". In contemporary French the word is the equivalent of the English do it yourself, and is seen on large shed retail outlets throughout France. A person who engages in bricolage is a bricoleur.

Two other favorite improv forms would be Jazz and Unconcious Writeing.

Just smart enough to operate machinery and consume, just dumb enough to do what they're told and think that's all there is to life.

Indeed. :3

@ Olrox: I know you deeply appreciate the perenial, & omnipresent, value of the following (& much else expressed in this thread). ;)
Generally speaking I believe in Sturgeon's Law which states: "90% of anything is crap." But I do believe crap has value to the extent that you make a point of learning from it, gleaning valuable insights that are then applied pragmatically.

There are also exceptions to Sturgeon's Law - like da Vinci's body of work or, closer to home, Pumpkin's 11 releases in 5 months.

Ok time to throw some more tomatoes on the wall, I wonder how the next map will be looking like.. or no wait.. there is a granny outside I will ask her what did she eat for breakfast, and I will know how the new map will be looking like from her face expressions while describing me her breakfast! :)

Are you offending me now?

/me slowly and carefully puts left hand on his well decorated long dagger - he knew they always expected them to be right handed and even if countered.. I could change the hand within second... slight foot change will give me chance to avoid the blide shining in the sun before the strike, Temerian steel was best of its kind and the sharpest at this side of the country but as all weapons has a drawback.. in this case it was its shiness..

Rman my friend.. at first I was certain that this term must mean handsome, well tempered, well educated, well situated, of perfect manners, knowledgeable and word aware, loved by women, creative, liked by everyone instantly.

But I decide to check it and.. the truth came out :/

I was kidding Sir :) the story made me to think if I shall not start in loundry a story of mine.. I have very big imagination you know.. too :) and it is you to decide.. here the journey starts or ends.. will the Rman start the journey of the unknow haracter?

Seriously I put it in your hands, if yes the story will appear soon, and will be of short and long parts appearing when I will be willing ;)

So how would it be??
