rules.js - AI implants for humans :)

So, I've just realised that rules.js could be turned in to an AI that assists human players. Each human gets their own rules.js running alongside them in their player slot.

This opens up some interesting possibilities:

1. Task assistance

For example the human could in-game message themselves (by prefixing the message with their player number if I understand correctly) and their rules.js AI will be able to hear that message and act on it. For example, if I'm player 1 I could:

Code: Select all

1 research vtol
(are player specific messages 0-indexed or 1-indexed?)

And rules.js could start researching me towards VTOL tech and let me know when I can start building VTOLs.

2. Status reports

rules.js could tell me about enemy activity - not just that my building was attacked (like it does already) but warnings when enemy VTOLs are spotted, or when an enemy is attacking my oil derrick, etc.

3. Advice / Training

rules.js could have a feature that players could turn on to get advice/training - for example it could recommend an improved building order at the start of the game, or it could recommend which droids/defences to use based on what the enemy is attacking with.

All this AI talk is confusing and I cant wait to see the final result but as your on a wish kick.
I would like a AI that the player has to help fight like a general AI ... to champion base defences or attack the enemy.
you give them units and a goal.

That sort of thing will likely only be possible in Warzone 3.2 when the full chat functionality (and loads of other useful stuff) is exposed to scripts. But that's certainly an intention of mine once those scripting features are available in public releases.

I pitched that idea a while back, in this thread. The ideas in my post might give you a good way to set it into the game properly, and just might change how most people feel about commanders in MP. I'd certainly love to see it happen. :D

I hope to see that sort of thing in the future, but there's quite a lot still left to do to make it reality.

I'd encourage you to post some of your commander ideas (or a link to them) in this recent topic: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=9119
