example:
Hyper Velocity cannon, build time points = 700
Heavy Machinegun, build time points = 250
in Warzone build time of weapon has effect only on tanks and vtols

i''ve said about "time to build" which means which time need factory to build tank with specified weapon.
if your tanks have 2 turrets, then your factory need more time to produce this tank

I like the idea so far, good idea How does this affect the vehicle build menu though? The menu already gets rather cluttered late game does this clear things up a bit of make it worse?
with structure design you not need hold all defenses in build menu anymore
in build menu you will see only actual templates of defensive structures
if you have 1 hardpoint template and dont need another defenses, in build menu you will see only this hardpoint

i think we should not research "cannon hardpoint" if we have researched cannon and hardpoint body
As I've said before, in that case we would need some limits (not sure if already applied), like disallow setting ripple rockets on pit etc.
Also disable most of currently unavailable combinations.
And current ones (or at least most of them) should be available as predefined templates.

Reg312, we should have templates for "backwards compatibility" (as it would required to have it in game, and I would like to see it available, but enabled through special research item).

Just include the templates as standard as a one-time import, so as soon as the required techs (foundation, turret) are researched the enabled template appears. Then users can just delete the templates they don't want.

why users should delete templates??
one of benefits from structure design is removing uninteresting research items like "light cannon hardpoint"
i see only 1 problem: AI cannot create structures from templates.
solution: rewrite AI
temporary solution: research items for defenses will be enabled only for AI
