New FMV how important is this to the community?
Re: New FMV how important is this to the community?
The story was published in the GPL release. It is in the RPLs and scripts included in it (novideo.rpl contains all the subtitles, for example). The missing FMVs merely contain a unique and separately copyrightable visual representation of the story that we cannot use.
Trademark is a very different case than copyright, and far less dangerous. There is a lot I could say on this topic, but I do not really see the point.

It seems that we all may have misinterpreted the premise for the thread. Are you speaking of a) New FMVs to replace the original ones, or b) New FMVs to continue the storyline with new Campaigns?GrimMoroe wrote: I don't see how or why this subject was derailed but I ask that it stay on topic. What I want to know is how many people want "NEW" FMV. Not lets get into an endless circle.
I would like to actually work on new videos that continue the story with new cams.

Re: New FMV how important is this to the community?
I would like to see a NEW campaigns with NEW FMVs. Though it would be easier to just Remake/Redo (but not the same style as the old FMVs) the FMVs to match the original campaign.
My vote is for new campaigns & new FMVs.

A new campaign would need new maps and massive rewrite of the scripts.

Re: New FMV how important is this to the community?
Rman Jack had an extensive storyline written for a "South American Cam." He put a lot of work into it.
Personally, I think players would better identify with a Western Europe Campaign. Years ago Coppercore and I had a high-level discussion about this, and I even came up with some concept sounds and game levels (level..) for it. I'll have to try digging those up for you all to see. In our discussions, The Project would make a D-Day style invasion in Western Europe, which had been taken control by a New Paradigm-like faction called the "Paradox Initiative."
I have screenshots and several sound effects, I'll upload them here when I can find them. Since at that time the source release wasn't even a thought, we had planned on making it an Unreal Tournament 2003 SP Campaign.
I don't expect people to adopt the same idea but I'll load the all the files I can find anyway just for the sole purpose of getting the wheels turning...

OK, here are the pics and sounds, as promised. The sounds are zipped up and they are in windows PCM (.wav) format. I can make accomodations if needed.

Here is the Command Center that we all know and love
Ignore the backdrop, it is for aesthetics.

A Close-up of the Command Center, to show its detail.

I also created a Power Generator. Occasionally it would shoot lightning from the spires toward the center spire, which would randomly spark with static electricity (to mimic the swirling energy effect in Warzone2100).
There are some other closeups of the power generator-- it was pretty cool. You could go inside it and see the main reactor. Further beneath the ground were some steam turbine generators. I paid a great deal of attention to the atmosphere inside the reactor; the main reactor chamber was very loud, humming with electricity and the generator room was also quite loud, with steam hissing and the loud buzzing sound of electricity being generated.
Now, regarding the sound effects:
GenSound.wav: This was an in-game sound of standing a little ways away from the generator, outside. The static-like "hit" sound is the lightning arcing from one of the outside spires toward the center spire.
Normandy2100.wav: In-game concept sound of the opening sequence, where you (and a bunch of other Project infantry and special forces) make an amphibious landing from a transport under intense enemy fire (the transport is hit by a SAM, you can hear VTOLs flying by and the transport .50mm MG firing at targets).
PI.wav: This is a warning that the Paradox Initiative sends The Project as The Project begins its assault. "Warning: You are entering Paradox Initiative airspace."
ProductionCompleted3.wav: Another in-game concept sound of a factory environment. You can hear a tank being built, its engine start up, and the Warzone2100 video agent say "Production Completed." You can also hear workers yelling to each-other.
Here are some other pics that I did not display in this thread:

Re: New FMV how important is this to the community?
Looks great, but what a new campaign needs primarily is a good and _thorough_ storyline. So if you still have something of that I'd love to see it. You mentioned an invasion of party X by Y, but obviously it would have to be more concrete and extensive than that.

Thorough.... yes....
Our work on this was mostly conceptual, but if people want to run with the idea, they're more than welcome.

I would like to see the new FMV for the original campaign, as well as any new ones that are created. If a new campaign is created, please keep the original one in as an option for players.
Since FMV is labor intensive, perhaps a slide show effect would be more practical. Perhaps the script from the original FMVs could be displayed as text, and the background could be a still image or images and maps. There would not need to be any voice acting for a slide show version either. This may not be as nice as FMV, but could still tell the story and would be a lot nicer than staring at a blank screen.
Another option, if people want to spend most of their effort on a new campaign with FMV, would be to put together a slide show type display for the original campaign and then add FMV for the new campaign.

well i have done several different types of "proofs of concept" . will have to maybe do some more...see what i can cobble together.

Re: New FMV how important is this to the community?
Mhm, in my point of view, voice acting is the minimum for telling the story.
I mean: voice acts > FMVs
I had a proposal already here: http://localhost/convert/phpBB3/viewtop ... 6454#p6454

New FMVs for the original campaign. Let's make the current one look good before thinking about another one, I think.

Agree. I'll Do my best. But I still vote for remake original old movies. NOT to make A new story line or something like wz2120 (to keep idias for better times).Olrox wrote: New FMVs for the original campaign. Let's make the current one look good before thinking about another one, I think.
