Re: Search Engine for Addons
Type "Merowingg Map" instead of "Merowingg's Maps" you'll get more results.
What I try to say is that you ask us to code a search engine better then google. While I see some possibilities with specialised keywords and such, I also know how much time it would take. I doubt nobody will ever do that simply because google is satisfying enough.

BunkerBlaster wrote:Yes a better way of searching for maps would be nice. It would be nice to search and categorize maps by number of players or quantity of oil derrick or size of map or sort by map maker. The Forum is nice, but being able to categorize them would be even nicer.
I have always used search, its just not the same as it provides tons of false positives.
effigy wrote:I think these sorts of improvements to addons have been discussed already. I'm sure someday we'll have categories to make finding a map or mod more convenient.
I think the idea is to look for something better, exchange opinions and views with what exists and what is proposed. The analysis of these will allow us to determine what might be best for the game.NoQ wrote:So you want to have a new feature because you don't know how to use the existing one? Hmm.
Still, i agree that Addons should be made more convenient to use, for example adding categories or different sorting types, and once it is done, an addon search form will be necessary.
Without any hint of criticism of what is available today, as it would be easy, but not representative of the intent of this.
All that so far have given their opinions, are old warriors of Warzone 2100. In one way or another have contributed to bring this game to get to where it is today.
Let me express an idea about it.
Suppose for a moment that we have a house that our parents gave us.
This fulfills its function.
But .... we would like to make some arrangements to improve it.
I dare to mention that this is the idea of this project itself.
I continue with the idea, change a wall, checking the foundation, roof, touch up paint, changing the distribution, and so on.
First, you should determine what is good and functions properly according to your way of life.
Suppose, determine what is right or wrong.
As an area unknown to me, ask advice and ideas.
Determine what satisfies me and what does not.
The right person executes the plans for the project. Search those indicated for their execution and work.
It seems logical and simple. As long as you live alone.
If I live with my family and friends, to agree will be more difficult as everyone will have their opinion and views the same or different to mine or your own.
In this situation the only solution will be, like it or not agree to achieve a common goal. discuss ideas for ways to implement them, and so on.
Sounds like Warzone 2100 ?
What is the problem of hearing possible solutions, consider the solutions that arise in this forum open to the community, even as a starting point of a conversation and not dismiss it, whether good or bad. Just as an idea.
Personally I think not only in this case but repeatedly in this forum responses to ideas, suggestions or simply views are accompanied by "do it ... link"
Idea and implementation are two different things.
Is my idea, opinion like to others or not.
I ask not implement it, just knowing other opinions.
No obligation to have an idea and develop skills.
I'm surprised the other hand specific questions to the game itself, its execution problems for your operating system receiving a proper response. The most important thing is that they assume the ignorance of the questioner on the issue as something normal in this type of forum.
In my experience, never, to name a few, Zarel, Lav-Coyote, MacUser, responded with a "do it ... link" answer.
The feeling is. I emphasize feeling, it is if I ask ... you get clear answer to your problem. On the other hand if you propose an idea ....... you go into deep water, as it is considered that this criticism or disapproval of what was done and I'm giving you problems and not solutions.
Without seeming rude, work on that?cybersphinx wrote:If anyone here feels like working on that: https://github.com/Warzone2100/wz2100.n ... wz2100.net
It is only exchange of views and ideas.

" no no, I just thought about a device,"
I use Goggle translator to communicate. Just out of curiosity I wrote
the meaning of "I just thought "....... and ..... "You ask us to code" is completely different
" you well know I am not good at informatics.."
Neither do I. Neither the thousands of players who enjoy this game around the world.
I think it's a good optiontopo1948 wrote:viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5726#p60574
We must have accurate information to incorporate the search. On the other hand is not to improve existing addons. It's another way to which the normal user unknown.Iluvalar wrote:http://lmgtfy.com/?q=site%3Aaddons.wz21 ... per+player like this ?

Re: Search Engine for Addons
If nobody does the work, any number of ideas won't change anything. And I mostly point out the areas where, as far as I know, nobody is currently working on anything.topo1948 wrote:Without seeming rude, work on that? It is only exchange of views and ideas.

Re: Search Engine for Addons
" If nobody does the work "
which one ?
Precisely that is the point. Nobody work on something that is not required or has been raised, that would be useful . It would be like to work on anything or nothing.
The idea of someone who wanted to play on mac or linux, mac mapping , to name a few in his time as a response received a NO, today is a running and otherwise quite good.
Comes to mind me, the chicken or the egg. Which came first ?.
" any number of ideas "
Not any amount of ideas, we are dealing with a particularly well defined. Addons.
" won't change anything "
I'm sure changes everything.
Warzone 2100 is the example.
Ideas, concerns and problem-solving, added to the hard work of people who devote time and skills have Warzone 2100 to what is now.
" And I mostly point out the areas where, as far as I know, nobody is currently working on anything. "
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5726#p60574.
Precisely this is a good idea to to search for maps, type, number of players, and so on.
I dare to indicate that has been worked on that, can easily find the type of map you want.
I think this is all about.
But from there to be implemented and all the work required for this is something else.
Search Engine Addons is only comments and discuss current options for improvement. No work to do.
I think the best way to implement Addons will be much easier to adapt the game to other operating systems. Did not say do it, just would be easier done.
Just for the record

Ideas and suggestions for how to improve the Warzone 2100 base game only. Ideas for mods go in Mapping/Modding instead. Read sticky posts first! Finished ideas should be submitted to IdeaTorrent.

Not to sound demagogue. The opinions, ideas and suggestions from each of the 4864 Current Members should and must be heard.
Those who do know, use their skills to include or not in the general context.

Respectfully I meet " any number of ideas won't change anything " totally out of context and particularly exclusive. It is understood that the opinions and ideas do not matter, bother and do not contribute anything. I am wrong or the translation system is not efficient.

It's a nice rant, indeed mero, but he's missing the point. There are no people available to do the work. We can complain until our faces turn blue, but the only result will be a lack of oxygen in our bodies.
This is why some features aren't implemented: http://forums.wz2100.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=7490&view=unread#p87241

Hi effigy !!
You are not on IRC now !! not good, why are you hiding ??
with my 7 maps per week as some dare to laugh at me
you can sleep well on that topic
Can I be banned for spamming with making maps ??
Ah and effigy nice mirror reflection for a moment I thought, what the hell, he has two different fields of mastering ??
And then.. my eyes went squint
You are not on IRC now !! not good, why are you hiding ??
Well maybe not necessarily missing but, I am also aware of the fact that many of us do really a lot, and sacrifice really a lot to our beloved Warzone.. and I am also aware that we could have more people to help.. but sleep well, I will cover mapmaking fieldIt's a nice rant, indeed mero, but he's missing the point.
