No doubt about that. Lots of other interesting & inspiring designs on that page too. Good find. :D

But it's a bit out of scale. The sequence at the end depicts it pretty much as flying barracks. While that is definitely a cunning vision I highly doubt there will ever be a chance to get something of this size off he ground, leaving the question of military usefulness or even need aside.

Here is a good summary article about the whole DARPA Walrus program, start to finish, from about 9 months ago:

http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/wal ... und-01103/

Also note this:
Walrus remains dead. On the other hand, since its demise, a commercial partnership involving Boeing and Canada’s SkyHook International Inc. has arisen to to create the JHL-40 HLV, a craft whose characteristics closely parallel the intended Walrus demonstrator. In addition, a couple of small DARPA contracts under much more modest programs are developing key components and technologies required for any HULA military transport.

See this article for more details on Boeing's Skyhook Project:

DARPA projects have been a great source of inspiration for me for many years now as far re-visioning various components of WZ's prognostication.

That said - I believe Lav's point in this thread was to suggest a possible re-design of WZ's Tank Transport's GFX, if I'm not mistaken, and in the context of the game, that is a modest, but worthwhile, proposal for consideration irrespective of the original WALRUS project's RL prospects of realization.

That statement also takes into account this:

Was making it so in MP games, it will be, a heavy unit takes 3 slots, 2 for medium and 1 for everything else, however, I am unsure what to stick in the UI to show that the spot is occupied.

Does it matter much ? :hmm:

Ideas ?

I also would like to have a new transport model, if at all possible, though we could use the SP one with the gun disabled.

Also, I am not sure where to stick this, should it be made available when the cyborg transport is ready, or should it require more research ? :hmm:
And that full discussion can be found here:
