That is awesome work.
I would love to see it ingame as a proper propulsion choice.

Yeah, they look very nice although main issue to put them more "upstream" would be to find distinctive features for them, how to make them different from VTOLs (for example, faster, slower, more durable etc. and decide if those should be obsoleted by VTOLs) and where to put them in tech tree (probably before VTOLs).

I was personally thinking that they could use tank-exclusive weapons with infinite ammo instead of VTOL-exclusive weapons, and possibly given slightly more durability, at the cost of speed.

Yeah, I was also thinking about combining infinite ammo with slow speed but that would be still too big advantage probably...
Maybe only make them more durable and slower but still require rearming pads (but let them to load more ammo per round or something like that)?

That would require some special programming, which, from a modder's perspective, seems impossible.

So we would probably need some new property, limiting ammo amount, or something like that.
Also I think that it would be better to continue that discussion in own thread. ;-)

.

Neat. :)

A possible distinction from VTOL could be the ability to hold altitude, no foward motion, swing side to side, strafing with various PGMs. Use an all purpose, helli specific turret, & what you'd research would be various munitions / ordinance delivered via different re-arming pads that would load said different ordinance / munitions. All rather pipe-dreamish, to be sure. ;)

Perfect! ^_^
As for my idea of choppers, yes i wanted then to use infinite ammo but only able to equip light weapons, speed should be likehovers. As for HP it should be half of vtols.I was also thinking of a chopper prop with 2 weapon mounts for light weapons under the wings.

Thanks guys :)
There are plenty of good ideas out there. By making the graphics, I personally challenge you all to go from speculation to implementation :)
Also, I would like to see it animated but I'm not quite sure how to do that. Maybe I could use berg's texture animation technique?

I think Berg has tried this type of thing, the current issue is that piggy backing the rotor animation where the vtol jet animation is done causes the rotors to disappear when it lands (think of the jets on vtols going out on landing.)

I think he mentioned that there is no texture animation for units yet; what Berg was doing is using a VTOL flame animation. You either draw the rotor as part of the model (and it doesn't move, you see a static rotor when flying) or you only draw effects (and the rotor disappears when you land). In USM we "solved" this problem by hardly ever allowing the chopper to land (it sometimes lands near a repair facility, but then it's natural that it's disassembled a bit).

Finished designs for all three sizes ;)

@NoQ: Thanks for the tip, I'll look into it

Sweet, though aren't we forgetting one more size? ;)

Ah yes, the dragon :)
I made it a quadrotor ;)
