sounds like Heyoka is a group of people who try to reveal the dark side of one's personality,and thereby make others to realize and rectify the misbehaviors caused by the flawes in personality such as taking without give,fake personality,two faced,sancimoniousness and superiority over others.

Though I am still clueless why he wrote such stuff in our forum,maybe he thinks some of us belonging to any of these 3 categories...(take without give,cowardness,two sided face) just a guess...

Reading the Wikipedia article, I find this very interesting...
Some questions stay: Are Heyoka ghosts or are they human? Because it sounds a bit ...weird... to me that it is a human person who breaks the rules and makes fun of everybody all the times without the others starting to dislike him...

More questions: What is he trying to say? Sure he is refering to particular happenings or persons, but which...? As he seems directly related to Virgil, I guess it has something to do with him... Did someone treat him badly? Me?
I like him. If he could only be a little bit more clear about what he means...

A class of people who are allowed (and expected) to transgress established rules and boundaries, to show things from a different perspective, making people aware of their behaviour by holding a mirror to their faces. Though I have to admit, I'd also prefer the image in the mirror to be not quite as distorted...

Does this mean after Virgil another person leaves?

I dont think neither Rman Virgil nor Heyoka Wakan 'left',rv was sent to work and unable to get online for a couple of weeks according to his last few posts.I think rv is a bit winded up being the middle man of WZR and AlexM,and he just wants to drop in pistoval studios with simple and pure motivation - to enjoy the presence in a place with the wz creators he has been looking forward to visiting/meeting for ages,and he didnt want to be a person who wants to gain something from the visit(to resolve the licence issues via personal relations)

rv's 'fix' is much better than mine...
I think the new one means:everyone is biased towards something,dont believe anything you dont see and dont believe everything you see.

though I am not entirely sure,since Heyoka himself is such a riddle...

You feel a little bit funny and because of your tribe's traditions, you recognize this is your destiny and you become a Heyoka and the others will accept it?

But still I would like to know the original intention of the author of the poem seen above... Probably it needs some time.

have you ever seen the movie  " little big man " ??  starred dustin hoffman in the title role.

in the movie one of the natives that he had words with became a contrary... you would have to see the movie to understand... that is part of the mystic being of Heyoka ...  one should always look beyond the mere words and sentences.

thats some funny chit. theres a mix here of funny and serious. heyokas have some Trickster in them which in Native American culture is revered and is also associated with the animal we call coyote.

heyoka is not a job or vocation. heyoka is a calling like having the irresistable inclination to be an artist rather than a cashier at the grocery store. in Native culture callings have absolutely nothing to do with money. in fact trying to make money from a spiritual calling is strictly taboo. in fact those who exploit Native Spiritual traditions for personal monetary gain are universally denounced as charlatans.

heyokas create an occassion of laughter so as to reconsider conventional mental models or mind-sets in a non-threatening way. questioning the conventional wisdom, to use the economist John Kenneth Galbraiths super charged phrase, is risky business and can easily lead to resentment and alienation or the status of a pariah which imho is why most people choose not to rock the boat and just keep quiet and play it safe.

the heyokas way can be seen thru three western philosophys that amount to saying what if there is another way of understanding or looking at things that is as valid, or more useful. you have to have a genuine humility in your make up to even go there, seems to me, like in i donot know everything about anything nor will i ever even if i live hundreds of years with a fully functioning brain.

one western philosophy that comes to mind was presented by the 19th century German philosopher Hans Vaingher in his The Philosophy of "As If"

the second philosophy is of our time and its tireless champion is one Edward de Bono and he has called it Lateral Thinking

the third philosophy is that of Martin Buber, specifically as expressed in his masterwork I and Thou

anyway thats my 2 cents for what its worth and btw i am no authority on any of this nor do I speak for anyone else.
