I'm still not sure what you're trying to say, but if you have honest criticism about flaws in the project that need to be improved, feel free to say it.Assault Gunner wrote:Never, ever, look an open-source project such as the WZ2100 project in the mouth. Besides, the Devs are working really hard, so just give them feedback. It makes them feel good. Like fanfiction, which isn't all bad. Just 90% of it.

Like Zarel, I don't understand the proverb's aptness.
Universally interpreted as what matters is what something is, not what it is called. True, though a tenet of propaganda and factoids is to obfuscate by making the "naming" more important than what "is". Orwell portrayed this well in his "1984" novel. I powerful recent real-life example would be the the Swift Boat Veteran's for "Truth" campaign against John Kerry in 2004.
My own preference would be a quote from the father of general semantics, Alford Korzybski, usually summed as "The Map Is Not The Territory". Here's Korzybski's precise statement:
Meaning that our perception of reality is not reality itself but our own version of it, or our "map". As well - parsing experience symbolically is reduction and as a reduced representation the whole of it can never be captured. Course this can go on and find expression in Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, Godel's Incompleteness Theorems and even the Bill Murray movie "Lost in Translation". A bit of the flavor of the preceding is also manifest in street vernacular as "whatever !" and "it's all good".
BTW - I see all the above apt to this thread and forum. Not a whit of it superfluous.
Cheers, VG

Derived from this adage going back to the 1500s:Assault Gunner wrote:

This in turn arose from the rule of thumb that a horse's age is gauged by its teeth. The caveat being not to question the quality or use of good luck or a gift.Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

I think the actual quote from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet can be relevant.Berg wrote:A rose is still a rose by any other name.
"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

But, your comment suggested I should sum-up my own experience as a modder-mapper of the game.
I think the present state of dev is most hospitable to GFX & SFX Mods. Both of which I appreciate as a player and as an artist and musician.
However, my main passion as a WZ modder is altering GPMs and my conclusion from working along those lines extensively is that the tasking involved mainly devolves to something akin the Myth of Sisyphus.
I can also step-back and understand that focusing on GFX evolution is a good strategy toward expanding the fan base (along with overall stability & robust MP, which I won't get into here).
I'd like to think that somewhere down the road that Sisyphus aspect to GPM modding will diminish and I'll be excited to get back into the mix of doing and creating for the game again.

Now, now, we had a few mistake betas. But overall, they've been improving. :/crux wrote:that each beta is worse than the last one?
Re: Some criticism from crux
improving?
beta 4 seems to be best beta they released with fewest number of issues, all the rest have major problems
beta 5 they hosed campaign games
beta 6 hosed mp games
beta 7 had GUI problems
beta 8 hoses savegames and sound crashes among other things.

be warned if you speak up about the issues they will start a thread bearing your name to get the community against you.

Re: Some criticism from crux
It was split off elcar's "Help with a crash" thread, since it had nothing to do with it. Seriously, if you make an off-topic post, what do you expect me to do? o_O

it should have been called just "some criticism"Zarel wrote:It was split off elcar's "Help with a crash" thread, since it had nothing to do with it. Seriously, if you make an off-topic post, what do you expect me to do? o_O
I don't see you singling out anyone else when they make criticisms.
