Hello all.
Thank you whippersnapper.
Thank you Zarel.
Ok Zarel you got a solid point, you can just rebuild the structure and not BIG advantage could be drawn from the destruction.
The building can be a tech tree step, meaning you need it to be build to produce certain units or technology. I know, in both cases is the rebuild the fast solution. Maybe you loose the upgrades after destroying the building, or so.
However i am not implicating to use these models in game or in a mod. If they are going to be used somewhere or not is not based on my wishes.
It looks like i am marked by the old strategy games where i had to build more buildings. I like it that way because the base looks like a representation of the tech tree and the units i can build.
Maybe i start to model the next concept today.

Re: Modeling Request - i do it!
I think I'm also marked by old strategy games .... plus having a bit of a "Turtle" streak in me, building fancy bases I find part of the fun.... but it's no biggie to me really the way Research is handled from one structure, I'm used to it. I would prefer more variety and better quality map feature structures, to honest....astorian wrote:Hello all.

That said.... talking about these concept buildings has led my brain, somehow, to thinking more on "Stealing" & "Hacking" game play which was fun in campaign but really does not exist in MP.

This part is a very good idea.astorian wrote:The building can be a tech tree step, meaning you need it to be build to produce certain units or technology.
This part is a bad idea - it's too severe a disadvantage. My idea is that you can't start researching again until a few minutes after you rebuild the structure.astorian wrote:Maybe you loose the upgrades after destroying the building, or so.
Re: Modeling Request - i do it!
I suppose you are right, the idea of temporary disabling the research after rebuild is a better idea.Zarel wrote:This part is a bad idea - it's too severe a disadvantage. My idea is that you can't start researching again until a few minutes after you rebuild the structure.
I got a crazy idea, when your building gets destroyed and you have to wait after the rebuild to continue research, your promoted units could be stripped of rank for the time period, or have to start earn promotions again.
Should i continue modeling the concept buildings? Is there is someone that could use them for a WZ mod or so?
Or is there something i could model for this project?

Re: Modeling Request - i do it!
I dunno, unit ranks and research don't have very much to do with each other.astorian wrote:I got a crazy idea, when your building gets destroyed and you have to wait after the rebuild to continue research, your promoted units could be stripped of rank for the time period, or have to start earn promotions again.(even i know its crazy i had to write it down.)
Um, I'd appreciate another modeler who knows how to get his models in-game. The last person I remember who could do that is Elio, and he's usually gone for long stretches of time. Do you think you could learn? There might be some information in the wiki, but I don't know where it is.astorian wrote:Should i continue modeling the concept buildings? Getting your models in-game is certainly a big plus as Zarel indicates..... Besides Elio.... there are several others that have done it
in recent times that are active still - like Black Project, Delphinio, Mysteryem... to name but 3.
Also... even bigger, IMHO, is being able to texture your models. If you don't texture your models it's very unlikely you'll get another
3D artist to do it for you unless your paying 'em good money or they have a steak of philanthropy a mile wide. The reason for that last
is very basic - creating the geometry of a model is the fun and way easier part of 3D modeling... texturing well is way more challenging and
compared to the fun of doing the basic geometry, a PITA (most folks who call themselves 3D artists couldn't texture their stuff if their life
depended on it. Sounds harsh but that's the pattern I have seen for years.) Every 3D artist I've conversed with over the years who can
texture their models good has said the same thing, and from my experience I agree. Mind you I like what you've done so far but I have to be
honest in the round as well.

Oh, I forgot about them. I don't think I've seen them around recently, either, though.whippersnapper wrote:Getting your models in-game is certainly a big plus as Zarel indicates..... Besides Elio.... there are several others that have done it

Haha... oh my.. I'm losin' it... That reminds me of the classic "navel cannons". Then there was the truly hilarious "camelfloshing" (for camouflaging)..Zarel wrote:Sounds delicious.

Re: Modeling Request - i do it!
Hello guys,
I am not going to quote your posts, i write an post for all instead.
I am not counting my self to 3D artists, since i see no art in my work. I am modeling for fun and for free.
I am not really good in creating textures. I can do some basic ones or use textures from other sources.
So what i am able to do is:
Model the mesh,
Map UV's and export the image for texturing,
Apply textures to the mesh,
Export .pie and replace it in game archive.
I used WZ lab textures to texture the powerlab:

(its done in short time so no good quality - its an exmple)
I exported the pie file and replaced in warzone.wz

So that is what i can do. Even i am not able to create detailed textures ..... Could there be something i could contribute with?

Well done Astorian !
Working with textures from the game itself or even other WZ mods is a perfectly good idea - it's been done many a time in the past with fine results.
When your models are textured they will likely be used at least in a mod or mods if you give formal licensing permission.
It really all comes down to what you enjoy doing.
I'll defer to the developers to speak on what could help the project modeling-wise.

I hope someone can use the models.
Licensing permission...? LOL! I don't care who uses it and what for! Just take it -http://www.redmod.sk/wz/blresch0.pie
I enjoy it and hope someone else enjoy my work too.
That would be cool to contribute to some mod or so.

So you know how to get a 3D model in-game! Great! Do you think you can replace the current wheels with the wheels in:astorian wrote:So what i am able to do is:

wz-wheel.rar
And attach (or send me) all the files you modified in warzone.wz?

I know the licensing thing sounds a little much formality-wise but because this whole project has to follow the GPL License under which the source code was released by Eidos everything associated with this web site and the project itself has to follow the formal release protocol - new art, music, maps, mods.... If you look at the stickied topics in the "Showcase" forum you'll see what I mean.
I can think of many, many, uses for these textured models your creating and I'm sure some of our more creative and active moders in the community can as well.
Just as an example, from my perspective. In one of the back-stories I wrote for the WZ 2120 Campaign I posited the discovery of a Scientific Research Facility by Tribal Scavengers calling themselves the "Seven Nations" off-the-coast of the Yucatan. This Facility also comes to the attention of the Project via Recon Drones along with another invading faction from Asia called the "Mangodai" just establishing a beachhead on a series of islands off the Yucatan coast in the Gulf of Mexico.
Anyway, to get to the point, one way I could see using whatever models you created would be to build that Scientific Research Facility as a little city in 32Edit World (meaning using them as features)..... and assigning-linking all sorts of new T-4 tech artifacts to the capture of each of those structures in the 2120 campaign mission scripts ... like "Hydrogen Fuel Cell Propulsion" for both ground and air chassis, "Mech Exos", "Nano Engineering" for real-time materials transformation.... "Micro-Recon Drones" and so on... really having your imagination inspired by looking at these new structures in-game.
That's just one example of how they can be used. Others will think of a bunch of other mod uses for them I have no doubt.

Re: Modeling Request - i do it!
Yes i can, but there are two objects: the wheel and the coverage. I have to join the meshes to one object. Is it OK like that, or do you need two objects because of animating of the wheel?Zarel wrote: So you know how to get a 3D model in-game! Great! I modified only the pie of the power lab (link in upper post). I had an older file - the first thing i made - was a big sign written base on it. lol
Well then, if someone wants me to model something for him or covert to pie like Zarel, i give it only to the person.whippersnapper wrote:.
