Is there a recommended poly count for buildings/structures?
first of all
hey, and welcome here at our nice warzone place :)

the most original structures use < 130 polygons, but hey the game is 10 years old so you can go a bit upper... say 500 - 700 for base structures (hq, power, research lab, cyborg etc..) that's ok, because you don't build them as often as a guard tower or a tank

for the texture, use a high resolution (i use 1024x1024) you can always scale it down when performance is needed..

For what it is worth, the best thing to do is get the current .pie models, convert them with the utilities in the svn to .3ds, then use blender (or whatever) to edit/change them.

That way, you can see how many the original had, and then it is pretty easy to use the utils to convert back to .pie so you can see it in game.
and it ends here.

Ok, so I want to make higher rez ground textures. I have modified the ones in game, and they work. But I want to get higher rez. But I can't figure out how it works. I took the ground texture file that came with the game and made it larger by x3. But the games crashes when I try and use that ground texture, Or it doesn't grab the texture properly. What am I doing wrong? How doe this work?
