The game awkwardly slows down whenever, say, a unit gets destroyed and the blue text at the top of the screen appears telling you that.

Everytime that text appears, for any reason or game event, the game awkwardly slows for me.

I'm using Windows Vista and have a Intel Core2 Quad with an NVIDIA GeForce 8500 on a PCI express...if that helps...

Version 2.1_beta2? Or some other version of Warzone 2100?

Kinda sounds like a driver issue. Can you try different video drivers, and see if it does the same?

Type showfps as a cheat code (once in debug mode), and see what kind of hit we are talking about.

Make sure you have FSAA off.
