I've updated the anti-virus program I se and it didn't do it this time. I think it was a "generic" virus warning.

So, the main problem, common to the beta versions and nightly builds is running on Windows XP... do you have any idea about what causes that?

What problem?

Both the trunk & beta 4 run fine on my (XP SP3) system, so the issue is something on your system that is conflicting with something.

I just don't know what it is yet. We need details. And this is the wrong thread to post about these kinds of issues IMO.

Suggestions, Corrections and so on

Post by Zi-Chan »

I don't know, if you know it, but i tried the last Trunk (r5913) just for Fun and i can't see the Minimap after building the Command Center. :|

"Start Skirmish Mode" isn't translated too - should be "Geplänkel starten". By the Way: "Geplänkel" isn't the right Word. I didn't even know the Word "Geplänkel", before i saw it at Warzone - and i'm german. "Geplänkel" sounds like an austrian Word.
"Single Player" should be "Einzelspieler" and "Multi Player" should be "Mehrspieler" - those are the german Words.

Wikipedia says, that "Geplänkel" isn't even a Battle in that Sense - "Geplänkel" describes a Fighting Strategy where you don't stop attacking your Enemy even if this doesn't beat it - just to keep the Enemy covered. Another reason, why it should be changed to "Gefecht", which means Battle, Combat, Skirmish.

Just wanted to tell you. I know, it's a Trunk and no Release. Though the thing with "Geplänkel" is at the Beta 4 too. Did really a german translate this? I would want to correct and complete the german Translation (but the Speech Sequences :P), since it isn't complete too (Drop a beacon, Raise gamma, Lower gamma, ect. in the KeyMappings-Screen). This is something, i could do, since i can't help with coding and programming. Can i? Then i need to know which Files i have to translate. But what, when new Strings appear? Is there an easier Way to translate?

And something else i noticed at the latest Stable and the Beta 4 too. When you close the KeyMappings-Screen, it doesn't send you back to the previous Screen, it sends you back to the Main Menu. At all other Options, it sends you back to the previous Screen. And the BackArrow's Infotext doesn't popup with "Return" like at all other Options - at the KeyMappings-Screen the BackArrow says "Return to previous Screen".

What graphics card you got? This would be an effect caused by lack of driver support for the OpenGL texture rectangle extension. There should be a note about it in the log.

Don't have a real Graphics Card - only an Onboard-Solution. Intel® 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family.

Do you mean the stderr.txt with log?
There is only one Error Message and it says:
"error |000000000000: [screenInitialise] Radar will not be displayed without support for texture rectangle extension!"

You recognized good. ;) How to handle it? I've got the latest Driver. And at the 2.0.10 and the Beta 4 (didn't try the latest one you posted in the News yet), i dont have this Problem.

EDIT: I now tested the latest Beta 4 you posted on the News. There i can see the Minimap.

This is caused by the new minimap code in trunk, which is not in 2.1. I do not see an easy way to fix this. I will think about it. Sadly, the i910 is very weak graphics card for gaming, and the more work we have to expend to support such low-end hardware is time we cannot spend improving the way the game looks (or other features).

There's a lot of non-translated stuff in the swedish version as well, I thought about trying to edit the language files, but it seemed to mostly contain the same kind of strange symbols you usually see when you open a executable file in an editor. Though I'm not sure what swedish word would fit best for the skirmish mode, it would seem to be translated to the word "Skärmytsling", but I don't think that's a common enough word in the swedish language (I haven't heard it used in anything but a 100 year old history books, the article on swedish wikipedia cites an encyclopedia printed in 1904-1926 as source) to be understood by the average swedish gamer.

@ Per: Ye, i know what you mean and i woudln't want to hinder the Development for sure. Well, it's enough Power for gaming Diablo 2 e.g. or X-Beyond the Frontier and the Sequel of it. Warzone doesn't have that much Polygons and huge Textures than the first two X-Games yet - another Code would fix this, without the Texture Rectangle Extension, isn't there any other Solution for what you want to do? I've got Minimap-like Maps at all Games i played without the Extension. Most of them were not OpenGL though. E.g. Diablo 2 is playable with OpenGL (3Dfx Glide) and it tells me, about this Extension is lacking too - but i never noticed any Problems while Playing. Maybe somebody knows an alternative Driver for my Graphics Chip, which works too and is supporting the Texture Rectangle Extension?

Intel® 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family

I can't upgrade my PC with a real Graphics Card, since it only has one PCI-E x1 and two PCI's and it's even Low-Profile too!
Buying a new Machine is impossible for me. And PCI-Graphics Cards (not PCI-Express) are expensive. :(

You can try searching for an updated driver for your card — however a Google search does not yield much hope.

I'll be honest and say that it is unlikely that we will reverse our decision to require rectangular texture support (ARB_texture_rectangle). The advantages are just too numerous. While it is possible to emulate the functionality the practical upset of it would be minimal. It would be the equivalent of giving a heart transplant to a terminal metastasised cancer patient with a month to live. It's a cruel world.

It is very likely, nay certain, that other parts of the code will begin to make use of rectangular texture support in the near future.

Regards, Freddie.

AFAIK, you edit the .po files in trunk or the 2.1 branch. (You would need to do both if you want both fixed)
You use a utility like http://www.poedit.net/ or something like that.
Then, you log into http://developer.wz2100.net/ create a new ticket, and attach the edited .po file, and someone should commit it sooner or later.

I'd use "Einzelgefecht" there, since just "Gefecht" doesn't make that much sense IMO.

There's also https://translations.launchpad.net/warzone2100, but that seems to be for 2.1 only.
