A paltry 30k poly's...

I haven't had the time to work on any major WZ projects, but I've done a little "doodling".  So I put some doodles together in a little scene I call My Pet Turtle.

As always, c & c appreciated... and if any of the movers & shakers would like a higher res png (1.5 megs), I can email it.
Thanks!

Wow, another really good image. I especially like the modern look of turrets.

These images make me dream of a complete remake of Warzone... With. Improved. Kickass. Graphics.  :D

Excellent work!

You even have a sky...just make it into the proper dimensions for a skybox, and we could use that also.  :)

Very nice!

Those scourge towers look a little off though... their colors are a bit more artificial then those of the rest of the models and... wasn't the red end on the turret supposed to be the rocket 'head' rather then the end of the barrel?

Other then that, great work! :)

Nahice! :)

Seen this, I remember: Can I get 1024x1024 versions of your images, including the WZ logo, border and your (c)? I'd like see how it looks in the game as backdrop. :)

I suppose, considering the ultra-low poly nature of the originals, that there is a bit of interpretation there... I had always "seen" the Scourge units as tubular launchers, like a TOW rocket barrel or something, with red "stand back" markings on the business ends.  But of course, there's about 400 times as many poly's in this version -- so I had to make a bit of it up  :)

DevUrandom: email me [cathuria at cathuria dotty com]; did you want it pre-squished like a menu backdrop? And did you want the lettering and border, too?  I was thinking about this as a menu bdrop as well, but I thought it might look better in that role without the lettering and border... ?
You might also want to talk with Per; he has a high-res 4x3 version of my other bdrop image with the pepperpots.
(... um, presuming Per is a he...  of course, that is further presuming that Per is of a species that even has gender  ...of course, that is further presuming that all of these internet entities aren't just figments of my imagination  ...or I am I taking this whole thing too far?)

* Masterful low poly work & gorgeous to boot.

* The whole of it would be terrific in creating different faction "looks".

* Your design of the harpoints is reminiscent of traditional  Japenese wall screens & exterior archetectural motifs.

* Your overall palette of light watercolor washes & pastels - absolutley unique to WZ... never been done before.

* In all, a joyful veiwing experience.

* Hmmm.... doesn't sound like you the way you phrased that.

* Well, anyhow...

* Models are sweet. :)

* It would be something special to see your work in-game & not just as backdrops, wallpapers or concept art.

* What are the chances of that happening ?

- Regards, RV :)

We had that on IRC yesterday. The idea was to reduce the polycount of the model a lot and render the highpoly details into a texture, as far as that is possible. To make it look really good some sort of bumpmapping would probably be needed...
Maybe for 2.2 we'll have these in. ;)

Sounds like you're describing normal mapping.

* That would be great.

* Cathuria has a unique vision in his work that is quite inspiring and would make for a WZ that is a visual feast. :) (among its other worthwhile assets)

Or parallax mapping or whatever...

Or a bit of all of the above.  ;)

The current engine needs a big overhaul to make this happen.

It sure would be nice if we could add support for openGL 2.x, but, that isn't in the cards at the moment.

I guess for that to happen, we would have to release wz 3.0  :-\
