replacing(re-designing) turrets
i want to re-design & replace the turrets in game so they look more realistic.
what exe's do i need?
& are there any issues that could come up.
i dont want to mod the damage/rof. (thats for masochists...)
just graphical changes so it looks better.
replace the current hv cannon with one that looks like its from a modern tank irl etc.

Re: replacing(re-designing) turrets
lmfao.
it's a whole process, trust me.
first of all, you need to have pretty good skill in using 3D Modelling software such as Blender.
second of all, you need to know how to export it to PIEslicer or Pie Toaster. (.pie is the default model filename for models on warzone2100)
And if you're planning on making it look different as far as colors and texture resolution, you might have to create your own textures for the tanks.
And about the issues, you also need to know how many verticies and polygons a warzone 2100 model may have, because otherwise it may either cause performance problems, or it may go over the limit. (250 polygons is the limit, i believe. correct me if i'm wrong.)
But if you're really willing enough to do all this work, feel free to do so, and share it with us.Â
If you need help on how to get started, most of the information you need is in lav_coyote25's Document Project (you may find a link of it on the front page>manual)
Good luck. ;D

hay.
gotta start somewhere.
even if i only manage the lgt, med & hvy cannon.
could textures be imported from photoshop?

oh yeah! warzone requires png textures, which photoshop can export. for model editing and texturing, there are various available tools. there's a maya export scipt somewhere out there, a really really old and buggy 3ds max export script (don't use this), a blender export script (i maintain that to some extent, so you're welcome to ask me questions about it). but you're probably a lot better off with either pie slicer (which is a little old), and watermelon's new pie toaster, which is cross platform, supposed to be very compatible with warzone (which is good for you), and won't let you make a lot of the same tedious mistakes you might make using any of the generic 'pro grade' editors. pie toaster can be found at index.php?topic=1018.0psychopompos wrote: could textures be imported from photoshop?
if you have any questions about all this, just ask

Re: replacing(re-designing) turrets
there's a pie import plugin for blender in svn. for export, you'll have to decide which you like better: exporting from blender to pie directly, or exporting to 3ds, and then using the 3ds to pie converter which is also in svn (this one is probably more stable, but i haven't tested it).psychopompos wrote: ok

Re: replacing(re-designing) turrets
which ever is easiest :-[
how do i get the import plug-in?
iv though a what i thing is a valid multi turret model based on the tiger and python bodys, with only a "slight incremental change".
i figure it'l be easier to make the adjustment if i use the existing files then do it from scratch.

Yes, those are what I used to convert the models into blender. The cannons that you want seemed to convert fine, but the hovercraft propulsions and missile turrets did not come out so hot.psychopompos wrote: would i be right in thinking its the http://svn.gna.org/svn/warzone/trunk/tools/blender/ i need?

Install Blender, then find out where Blender on Windows stores its scripts (probably can be found on their website) and move those files into that folder.psychopompos wrote: would i be right in thinking its the http://svn.gna.org/svn/warzone/trunk/tools/blender/ i need?

Re: replacing(re-designing) turrets
If you provide helpful information (Blender has a console, which usually can provide it), you have a chance that someone (eg. kage) can help you.psychopompos wrote: i take it i need all of those files for it to work?

Re: replacing(re-designing) turrets
Yes definitely, unzip it. You need to try and convert individual pie files. If you don't mess with the directory structure, the textures should come along too. You might want to package those then before you save the file so that the turrets will have their textures the next time you open up the .blend file, regardless of where you save it and where the separate texture bitmap files are stored.psychopompos wrote: console says;it is the warzone.zw im trying to get the files from?
