What is the opinion here on implementing proximity mines?
After searching the forums I found a few topics who suggested this a few years back, but it seems nobody got around to implement this feature. It was part of the original demo [1], but was removed (I guess for balance reasons). There were mods that implemented this in the past (NTW), but that was script based [2] and had its limitations. I have substantial programming experience, and I've read (and scanned) through the source to see if I could contribute something.
I'd like to contribute some code to add this as a defensive structure, preferably such that it is suitable to end up in the tree eventually. I think it might touch the whole electronic warfare too, since I'd like to add some mine detectors as well. It obviously needs to be in the research tree too, but I've got no concrete plans yet.

(Proximity) mines
Re: (Proximity) mines
For what it is worth, I was going to implement mines (was on my TODO list), however, I just don't have any time to do it.
If you would like to do it, then, I have no objections. Stick your patch on trac when done.

Re: (Proximity) mines
Mines have been around since pre source release. I think they made it into the old 1.12 update but not entirely sure.. a code change for them would probably work out better in the end than a purely scripted even as has been done in the past.
If you need an idea on how they were done in another game you can check out the Mech Commander (1 or 2, not sure which had a source release) and see if there is anything useful to go by. Hope it works out though, would be nice to see a real solution to mines in the game

Re: (Proximity) mines
Good idea..
ENEMY OF ENEMY WITHIN ENEMY THAT LIES BETWEEN ENEMY THAT TRIES TO UNFOLD AN ENEMY SO THAT THE ENEMY WILL THINK IT'S ENEMY IS AWAY FROM THE ENEMY HOME WORLD THEN AFTER THE ENEMY WORLD
