Plasma is controllable. Did you know that fluorescent lights use plasma?

The term "plasma", doesn't represent a matter, it represents a special state of matter.
So there is no real plasma. There are just lots of plasma gases, read the wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plasma_(physics).
It is a gas with some ionized particles, and because of that is easy controlled by magnetic fields or electricity.

Ideas for firepower upgrades:
Electromagnetically insulated plasma chamber: plasma is suspended in an electromagnetic field allow allowing higher plasma temperatures

Secondary plasma energizer: Further enegizes the plasma while it is accelerated

The choosed ones:
Accuracy Upgrade => Controlled Lightning Supercharger
Damage Upgrade => Thermoplye Reactor
Rate-Of-Fire Upgrade => Magnet-Optical Trap Optimizer

As you said, choosing these cooler upgrade names might require to change the name of their weapons, so i'll add my two cents here:

Pulse Gun (Light)
Plasma Gun (Medium)
Plasma Cannon (Heavy)

Feel free to propose another names

like KUKY said plasma is a state of matter. the best example of plasma would be fire. so in a sense we already have weapons that produce a matter in plasma form. i think energy might be plasma but i dont know. and a pulse gun is an electro magnetic gun. the "pulse" is a field... i think

oh.... you need a plasma generator or something. it turns materials into plasma to be used in weapons.



side note: are there going to be energy weapons? IE: lightning generators or something...
if not i will post some ideas

I meant cooler like the previous weapons change to something else like (WTF ALL CAPS) cannon rounds turns into something like GPS-guided Rounds or for the laser, it could be rapid energy redistribution. Not this all caps, generic stuff.
