Hrm, thinking about it, whatever happens in this cam, the player needs to end up being part of The Project. Because they then go on to do the other cams.

Right, if it's a Prequel then we already know the "end". We just have to define the "beginning", working within facts we already know.
I'm thinking also that "artifacts" aren't the only things that can "drop". It could be the 'artifact crate' object but we can call it whatever we like based upon story. Could be a 'pallet of canned dog food' or some such. That would at least get the player wanting to go pick it up.

.
How 'bout for the sake of variety only one of the factions are NEXUS asslickers and the other more forcefully coerced by threats..?
BTW.... when I used the word "antecedent" in my previous post I had the following Pumpkin timeline in mind; specifically the years 2086-2099. Nothing much there is a given.

WARZONE 2100 TIMELINE ---------------------
2050: NATO alliance collapses in face of growing nationalism and unrest in Europe.
2075: Nationalist unrest in Eastern Europe and Asia leads to nuclear attacks by terrorists.
2075: Synaptic Link research begins.
2077: Mongolia attacks China.
2079: Korea allies with Mongolia.
2080: Synaptic Link Patented. First Cyborg Soldiers developed.
2080: NASDA (North American Strategic Defense Agency) formed to protect North America from nuclear attacks.
2081: NASDA begins building satellite defense array.
2082: NASDA satellite system comes on-line.
2085: During routine testing the NASDA system malfunctions and launches nuclear strikes against all major cities in the world. The target countries respond with nuclear counter-strikes and NASDA fails to defend against incoming missiles.
2086: Nuclear Winter begins. Widespread plagues and famines kill billions of people. Civilization ends. NASDA systems lie dormant following electromagnetic pulses. A group of survivors discover an abandoned subterranean military base. They set up home there and begin The Project.
2099: The Project emerges from its military base.
2100: The Project begins its search for Pre-Collapse technologies.
"The Project is dedicated to recovering Pre-Collapse technologies and rebuilding the world." -Project Mission Statement
"From the ashes of the Collapse we seek to build a better world for all." -John Hammond - Project Director

@Goth: Yup - sounds good! We shall introduce the world to the importance of dog food!
@Rman: The others can be more forcefully coerced, but in this prequel we don't find out about new paradigm or collective or nexus. It's only in later cams that we find out about those factions.
It might be that in the prequel we see the early scav beginnings of new paradigm and/or collective. However at least one of those should not be encountered at all (collective) until later campaign. Not everyone is from Seattle!
Also, I've been gathering some notes to try and map out a rough story plot based on current discussions (I might have missed stuff though):

Looks like I'll be using the username / password you PM'ed me with after all, Aubergine.
Not working, which is totally fine. I'll create a login and we'll go from there.

@Shadow Wolf: Regarding your idea of Kennedy Space Center, maybe that could be for Cam5 when aliens start to get involved. Would mean that the project have to research more space tech, eg. to build & launch defence satellites to help defend against Jorzi's UFOs...

Ya, when I did a site upgrade some time ago I had to reset all the user accounts because the user management was switched from Confluence to JIRA. Create new login and it should work fine.Goth Zagog-Thou wrote:Looks like I'll be using the username / password you PM'ed me with after all, Aubergine.

Watched the Intro FMV from Cam 1. It's clear they have set up Omega Base in the High Plateau area of Colorado or New Mexico. So we know where they end up at, specifically. Now we just need to get them there.

Re: [Cam 5] 'Scavenger Wars' Ideas Thread
@Rman: Regarding that timeline, maybe we could eventually also have pre-collapse campaigns at some point (so work backwards starting with post-collapse scav wars, then move to precollapse cams some time in future):
Cam -3:
2050: NATO alliance collapses in face of growing nationalism and unrest in Europe.
2075: Nationalist unrest in Eastern Europe and Asia leads to nuclear attacks by terrorists.
Cam -2:
2075: Synaptic Link research begins.
2077: Mongolia attacks China.
2079: Korea allies with Mongolia.
2080: Synaptic Link Patented. First Cyborg Soldiers developed.
Cam -1:
2080: NASDA (North American Strategic Defense Agency) formed to protect North America from nuclear attacks.
2081: NASDA begins building satellite defense array.
2082: NASDA satellite system comes on-line.
Cam 0: Scavenger Wars
From 2086 through to 2099.
Timeline and key events could be derived from the rough plot?
Cam 1: New Paradigm
Starts in 2100 with team Alpha setting off to find synaptic link tech.
Is there a timeline for Cam1?
Cam 2: The Collective
When does this start? How is it summarised? What's the timeline?
Cam 3: Nexus
When does this start? How is it summarised? What's the timeline?
Cam 4: ??
When does this start? How is it summarised? What's the timeline?
Cam 5: Alien Invasion
When does this start? How is it summarised? What's the timeline?
Would be great if we could flesh that out and use as a sort of roadmap for future WZ cam dev.

In fact my old dream is to see "Cam -4: World War Two" campaign, with real maps, real battles and real weapons.

Re: [Cam 5] 'Scavenger Wars' Ideas Thread
One question - is the "Commander" (and the woman behind the female computer voice) born yet? If we consider the possibility of having pre-collapse prequels at some point in the future, could it be that "The Commander" was born post-collapse, maybe while parents sheltered in a bunker, and he grows up and learns to be a commander during Cam0? He'd be about 14-15 years old by the time he sets off with Team Alpha in Cam 1 in that case.
It would be interesting to build the story behind The Commander and whoever is behind the female voice.
While the later cams focus a lot on tech and droids, cam0 could be much more focussed on the human element and properly introduce the characters that we know from the later cams.

I guess we could make a new "Warzone Calendar" where B.C. means "Before Collapse" lol. A.D. could be "After Dogfood" hahah.

Following up my last post....some more canon.
Seattle...? What's there is clear.

Seattle...? What's there is clear.
In the late 21st century, NASDA (the North American Strategic Defense Agency) developed and deployed a massive missile defense system, including a network of nuclear-equipped satellites and ground-based launch sites. However, during a routine maintenance check, something went terribly wrong...
"The Collapse came fast and hard. Following a technical error in the satellite defense system, nuclear warheads were fired at Washington, Beijing and Moscow. Minutes later, ground based sites fired in response to the launch. Millions died as nuclear firestorms wiped out the world's cities. Billions more died as plagues and epidemics swept away what remained of civilization. Less than a million people survived theCollapse. Earth brokeinto hundredsof small scavenger bands battling each other for the remnants of the former civilization. Only a few had the vision to attempt to rebuild a new world from the ashes."
The player (referred to as "the Commander") is part of a group of survivors that seeks shelter in a military base in the Rocky Mountains. They emerge from the basez with the goal of rebuilding the world, adopting the name "The Project".
The Project dispatches three teams with the objective of reclaiming artifacts, thus allowing the research and application of pre-Collapse technologies. Team Alpha is sent to an Arizona desert location southeast of Project HQ. Beta team is sent to the remains of Chicago. Gamma team is sent into the northern Rockies in Colorado.

Is Omega base where the three teams (alhpa, beta, gamma) set off from to go look for artefacts at the start of cam1?Goth Zagog-Thou wrote:Watched the Intro FMV from Cam 1. Maybe we should start collating info about all the cams and everything that's known about the game - sort of a warzoneipedia. I'd never heard of omega base until now. There's prolly a load of other stuff I'm not aware of too.

Re: [Cam 5] 'Scavenger Wars' Ideas Thread
The objetive of The project is to recover artifacts for rebuilding the world, not to start another war. But they find NEXUS, The new paradigm and The collective and they have recovered lot of artefacts already, so they have to fight them to get them.aubergine wrote: Maybe the thought that aliens were involved could be the reason the newly formed project / new paradigm / collective factions go off looking for military artefacts?but you don't find out about that until later cams.
And if there are aliens or not why they wouldn't want to recover artifacts?
The war of scavengers could have started because groups of survivors disagree on something or one group doesnt want to share resources(food,oil,weapons,¿cars?...) to other group so they start fighting.
