Perhaps throw us a bone with the faction 'motto' ?

The last game I recall that had semi-unique factions was ... well, I'll list the factions, you can guess the game.  Terran Confederation, Retros , Merchants, Bounty Hunters, Pirates, Militia, K****  (the last one would give it totally away. :))  Yeah, this wasn't a RTS, but I still think of it from time to time.  Then I recall how annoying it was when they would say the same things over & over.  LOL
~ The Factions & Their Mottos: A 1st Cut ~

* The Project: "When the World is at Peace, a gentleman keeps his Sword by his side."

* The Scavs: "All warfare is based on deception."

* The New Paradigm: "We make war that we may live in peace."

* The Collective: "One mind, any weapon."

* Nexus: "That which doesn't kill me, will make me stronger!"

* The Mangodai: "Civilize the mind but make savage the body."

* The Lunarians: "Flexibility Masters Hardness"

* The Apollonians: "Act like a man of thought - Think like a man of action."

* The Titans: "War is not about who is right, it is about who is left."

--------------->

* Hadn't thought 'bout it before you raised the concept so these mottos likely will undergo evolution.... As you can see, I've already introduced different mottos for the The Scavs & The Project & only a couple days have passed !!

* Feel free to comment & query.

what about;
Project: "building a new world from the ashes"
paraphrase of what was said in the original intro fmv

(if you could throw a factional rift within the Project in to the story
Resurrection project: "to rebuild the world, there must be those to lead the way")
factions within factions... its very... human, you think not?

The Collective: "through us, all will be united as one"

Nexus: "to create a world of gods, the weakness of the flesh made strong by machine"
in relation to what his initial promise is.

and should/would the scavs really be that unified enough as to have a universal motto?

i havnt got a clue about the rest, as i havnt seen them to guess at their goals to guess at what they might say...
googling their names gives...  :-\

another thing? how come there are no factions for Africa, south America... or anyone else south of the equator?

* Will use.
(if you could throw a factional rift within the Project in to the story
Resurrection project: "to rebuild the world, there must be those to lead the way")
factions within factions... its very... human, you think not?
* Absolutely... we're on the same "wave-length".... this has been done already. :)
The Collective: "through us, all will be united as one"

Nexus: "to create a world of gods, the weakness of the flesh made strong by machine"
in relation to what his initial promise is.
* I like. May I use ? You've also inspired me to figure-out a mechanism wherein we can use more than one motto for each faction. (It's a literary technique of Heroic Fantasy novels & some Sci Fi like the "Foundation" series by Asimov & Heinlein's "Lazarous Long" stories.)
and should/would the scavs really be that unified enough as to have a universal motto?
* Some not, I agree, but not all. In Wz2200 there is "The Scav Seven Nations" modeled on the Iroquis who inspired the Founding Fathers in the creation of the US of A. They are comprised of South American United Scav Tribes brought together to deal with a threat in common with The Project - the "ManGodAi".
another thing? how come there are no factions for Africa, south America... or anyone else south of the equator?
* Wz2200 is divided into 4 major geographic regions on Earth: South America, Siberia, China & Africa. Also 3 off-world bodies (w/Factions):the Moon (Lunarians), Mars (Apollonians) & Saturn's moon "Titan" (Titans)

* Map Features are entirely redone & limited only by the size of our maps which are 2x the current maximum. Ergo features like the "Great Wall", "Pyramids", Winter cities being reclaimed by nature, & so forth are part of it

* Good input :)

be my guest of course, im happy i helped. ;)

[jack]i only read Asimov's time machine. since i read the book, its been a long time on top of that.[/jack]

though im not so happy with the "to rebuild the world, there must be those to lead the way"
maybe "to rebuild the world, it shall be us who lead the way" doesn't sound soo... refined?

how does "through us, all shall be as one" sound for the collective? simpler and more concise... more machine like, you think so?
"our unity shall bring peace to all" as another.

i tried to think of one for the new paradigm "bringing salvation to the chosen" being one.
"a beacon to enlighten the darkness" as another.
though i couldn't run those through my head without my mind superimposing the voice for the prophet of regret :D

does the origin of those off worlders affect their tech in anyway?
the Lunarians having vast amounts of power due to the helium3 they monopolise. fusion reactors giving power output bonus over nuclear. though a monopoly on certain stealth techs that are expensive, their units cost compensate.

the Apollonians having massive yet expensive bodies, their light bodies being just shy of a scorpion in size/hp.
(it'd cost as much to get a car from mars to earth as it would a fire truck.)

and the Titans... to travel that distance effectively... warp gates? faster units?

* I like your new motto suggestions psychopompos & look foward to when our site goes live & you can directly contribute to the shape of the 2200 campaign. I can't reproduce here our "Grand Time Line" & various backstory components which would give you more to work with.

* You hit the nail on the head with the "Power Sources".... we are introducing all those you mentioned.

* "Star Gates" are one means under consideration for transport between planetary bodies...

* The Lunar & Mars colonies were established BEFORE the Collapse & both had "sleeper cells" (can't spoil by saying who)...

* "Titan's" colonization is the culmination & final struggle of the 2200 Campaign.

* The Lunar conflicts will be "Borg Wars"

* I'll remain mum for now on the "Mars" & "Titan" conflicts. ;)

combat through x,y, and z axis would be fun as part of that.
(would that be a first? space based RTS with direct control over individual units)
especially if the direct control fixed & applied to all unit types. 8)

* Can you imagine the Titan "Skybox" - Saturn & its rings on the horizon..... gorgeous. :D

* We currently have no plans for any type of "Homeworld" physics implementation (but when we pass the torch to the next generation of WZ devs.... never say never, so to speak).

* One thing you can be assured of though is that the "otherworldly" feel will be way stronger than say the classic"Starcraft"...

* Speaking of "StarCraft" our implementation of "M.A.V.s" parallels the "Science Lab".... but with some variants unique to WZ.

* ALSO - In mentioning the next gen of WZ devs..... we are currently embracing another team who has heretofore been working indepently for some time on their own project called: "Warzone 3100: The Final Stand"..... we feel quite lucky in making their aquaintance - terrific energy, talent & vision.

I think Homeworld is open source, but I know Starcraft still needs to be purchased. It's still quite the bargain - US$20 for everything you need.
