Maybe, Roux, you like this one better:

Or this:

Or maybe even this:

I myself believe the second may be easiest and with least tri's.

I liked the one mounted on the tank (third pic). Looks very hi-tech. Just the fact that they picked a design like that to go on top a military vehicle makes it look all the more, well, cooler. But I have no idea if that's a practical model for the game

Re: Models by Jorzi (AR)
Actually, the third picture shows our homegrown "Gepard" anti-aircraft tank. It's not all that high-tech, this vehicle was commissioned back in 1976. The dish-and-horn array is it's surveillance radar, the tracking radar resides on the front of the turret, left of the iron cross emblem and below the barrels. But I agree, the design of the surveillance radar is rather impractical in terms of poly-count. That's why I opt for the second picture. Actually, it's a german radar from WW2 and if you take a closer look at it and the current in-game model, it may well have been known to the original artists. They integrated quite a few similarities to WW2 technology. For example, the medium cannon is stated to be 76 mm caliber. The only weapon ever in that caliber was the on-board cannon of the M4 Sherman.

WW2?! Interesting. I would never have imagined that. And 1976 is quite a long time ago, it's funny how we think that old times are just horses and carriages. Thanks for that bit of info, Corporal Punishment.

Re: Models by Jorzi (AR)
thanks for the ownage
ok heres my two cents, the first one could be an excellent replacement for the sat uplink centre, the second looks like a great first stage radar replacement, and the third... ew, i like the turret though ^_^

Re: Models by Jorzi (AR)
Hmm interesting designs...
I experimented a bit with an antenna in the middle of the dish, but either it would have required too many polys for my taste or it wouldn't have looked very good... Besides, I already mapped and baked it
Here are some pics of the baked lowpoly, hopefully you will like it even though it has no antenna.
Edit: Macuser, I uploaded the model with textures at sourceforge

I really can't make out the Antenna being dished inwards, looks pretty much flat to me, which would be fine in a technical sense. But that may be due to perspective. Horn antenna or not, it's nice piece of hardware. By the way, I got some ideas for the commander turret in the mean time. I think I can get a sketch done some time this week.

Re: Models by Jorzi (AR)
About your model:
I think it is a bit too low-poly. You should use more polys on the dish itself.
And it looks like the sensor will be moving up-down, while it will constantly be rotating left-right.
So I think you should remove those holders and attach the dish directly to the base.

Re: Models by Jorzi (AR)
It does rotate along the Z-axis most of the time, but it does tilt up or down if designating a target higher or lower than itself. With the current model, the dish only does tilt, but this one should tilt the whole mast, what will look far better.

Agreed, btw will be interesting seeing the new commander design, the current one looks... weird :\Corporal Punishment wrote:It does rotate along the Z-axis most of the time, but it does tilt up or down if designating a target higher or lower than itself. Got the sketch done last night, but have to bother my colleague again for his scanner as I still don't have a Win 7 compatible device. I hate computers. Guess I'll upload tonight.
