New graphic technologies are the only thing that would be a reason to start work again, anything else is senseless in my eyes. Besides the fact that I love Warzone 2100 since 1999, I would rather see more efforts for the techniques MaNGusT mentioned above than "new buildings", "new units" or other major changes which don't honor the original game.
Needless to say but I'm watching the board in the future.

(not that I would stop trying to implement tangent space, we need it anyway, it's just not currently working )

I'm currently aiming for a 256 px texture size per square tile, means a 3x3 square base plate has 768x768 px.
agree but I suggest you to have backup of your textures in max size(for me 2048x2048). may be in a future we will require doubled texture resolution for "ultra" quality settings.
