Re: What kind of base settings do you like?
I had to live without internet for some time so I hope this poll is still active for discussion
I always start without bases, I want to build my base on my own. This implements very simple things such as building power generators in the back of the base, factories in front.
I think every player has preferences depending on how his base should look like, what to build first and where to place which building.
Makes the beginning a lot more challanging. Do I try to build a lot of factories to rush or go for more research facilities to be able to attack using advanced technologie?

Re: What kind of base settings do you like?
I prefer no bases, though, not for reasons concerning controlling my build order. I don't like the mixed tech that comes with bases/advanced bases. The logic is similar to my post here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8521&start=30#p92161
When you start with bases you are given weapon tech that still needs it's preq's researched. I think this confuses many new users, and even experienced users who don't normally start with bases. Illulavar has a mod floating about somewhere (skydrive? i forget) that corrected this by giving you all the preq's, though there is still balancing to be done to remove certain items as starting tech for each tech level, imo.I think T2/T3 would be used more if we corrected the starting tech. Illuvalar helped me start such a project quite awhile ago, but it's unfinished/forgotten. AFAIK, despite all the balance changes over the years the starting tech for T2/T3 never changed, which introduces a few over powered and a few useless starting techs.
This is why some features aren't implemented: http://forums.wz2100.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=7490&view=unread#p87241
