What kind of cable is it? Ethernet? DSL? Phone line?

Since you don't have a modem, that means the modem is somewhere outside of the house, which means there could be a router there, too, which basically means you're out of luck; no hosting games.

One thing you can try, is to see whether it really is a hardware problem and not a firewall/software problem.

1. Temporarily turn off your firewall and antivirus and anti malware (yeah pc's need lotsa protection )
2. Try to host it again

if it does work get new security software. However if it does not work it can mean 1 of several things:

1. Your home is plugged through a router in a box outside like zarel said
2. Your ISP blocks the hosting port
3. Some crazy person messed with some funny setting on you computer and messed some weird thing up (go figure )

if you think case #2 is applicable you can try to phone your ISP and ask them to unblock it for you (since I host my own website I had to do this once).

If it is 7 or less, yeah, those versions totaly suck, but in version 8, it made a giant step in scan speed and it almost doesn't slow up computers at all.

I am living in a normal house in the city. My cable is going straight from the wall to my PC.
No modem. No router. No switch.

The only other thing I can think of is check if TCP/IP filtering is enabled for incoming connections on your PC. If filtering is not enabled do nothing. IF TCP ports say permit only then add port 2100. If IP Protocols say permit only then add TCP.

The newer versions of AVG is garbage.
It can really slow your system down, even if you disable most of the scan options, it still does them.

@Kuky, I disagree with you, new version still slowed down my old comp, goes fine on the new one.
@Buginator, I agree, but of all AVs I tested, this was the one which gave me less problem and detected more malware.

Is there any way to connect to lobby by using hamachi? Since i can play with hamachi, it can be possible to bypass closed ports.
