I mean, when they start with Low Bases, keep the initial power low. Not 0 (even power generators cost 50), but more like 600 or 800. Instead of the ridiculous 1300 you start with.

Re: What's your research strategy?
I usually make unexpensive research, the only vehicle upgrades are until I get bug and engine upgrades to get the most productive power generators. As I said, my research is straightly directed towards power generator upgrades and research facility upgrades. I end up using standard units as base defense most of the time, and I run 90% of the time with power under 500.Zarel wrote:...yeah, that's really late for going scouting. And how do you get the power to maintain 5 facilities? Then again, I'm used to med power... But if you have 5 facilities going at once, you need more than 8 resources going for you to do anything else... Most maps don't have that much power.Olrox wrote:Note that I play on high power levels, usually 4 player maps, free for all & locked teams. I start making a factory (assigning production of 6 trucks), then a research facility, then the base's internal power structures, then additional 2 research facilities and then finally I go out scouting for additional resources with 4 trucks and use the other four to build the rest of the base (starting with HQ to make scouting easier). I build 5 research facilities as soon as possible.
It's a bold strategy. And when someone get into my nerves by attacking with puny gunners I usually cancel all research and beat the crap out of them with mixed cyborg forces. x.Heavy gunners+ x.grenadiers+ 2x.gunners are very good when the enemy hasn't structure upgrades.

Heh, if someone can beat all of my 5 cyborg bases producing gunners non-stop, in the first 15 minutes, It'd be really impressive. Even a large number of early-game units are easily beatable using gunners combined with MG bunkers. (I still don't know why people insist on building MG towers, they are so fragile and catch on fire very easily)winsrp wrote:hmmm... you seem easy to kill in the first 15 min of gameplay then... lol

An HMG-Viper-Tracks rush can take care of as many cyborgs as you care to throw at them.

Re: What's your research strategy?
Except that at that stage of the game you're probably still on HMG viper half-tracks :c)
I must admit that I don't MP much so I tailor my response to the AI. Unless I'm facing Become Prey I go heavy on oil-exploration and power/ research researches, trusting that no significant forces are coming my way. At the end of the first 5 minutes I've research in full swing but maybe a half dozen MG/ TMG viper half-tracks.
I tend to skip the MG towers and head straight for the bunkers and once obtained I like to extend turtle any choke points available.
For tie breakers I love my BB air-raids... I don't generally bother with dedicated AA because Hurricanes and even Cyclones quickly become very limited in counter ability. I trust in breaking the enemy before they have time to break back.

What bunkers? I thought you said you defended with mostly cyborgs?Olrox wrote:That's what the bunkers are for
Bunkers don't stand up to HMGs particularly well, either.
(Oh, and, 500 is awfully high to keep your power levels.

couldnt you script it so your first generator & derrick cost zero?Zarel wrote:I mean, when they start with Low Bases, keep the initial power low. Not 0 (even power generators cost 50), but more like 600 or 800. Instead of the ridiculous 1300 you start with.

Re: What's your research strategy?
No, that's too excessive. It would make for a ridiculously slow earlygame.

Re: What's your research strategy?
MG bunkers, they're good against light vehicles. And 500 is usually when all of the researches are finishing, so that I don't get stuck with 0 when they're draining power.Zarel wrote:What bunkers? I thought you said you defended with mostly cyborgs?Olrox wrote:That's what the bunkers are for

Re: What's your research strategy?
Okay. I've written most of an early-game guide.

Can anyone offer feedback on this?

Re: What's your research strategy?
Reading most parts of it, I dare to say it's very good. Many parts are similar to the mode I playZarel wrote:Okay. I've written most of an early-game guide.
