I like the idea of the new interface, but you should be careful with overstuffing the screen, and causing the player to not be able to see.
I liked the 3rd-person camera in the original driving mode (PSX). Maybe there could be changeable cameras?

How 'bout an option to switch from 1st person view to third person view in driving mode, been a long time since ive played my warzone2100 on the ps1 and im not sure if it even had that option of going into first person 
. All i remember is that third person was better than first person in some points, hopefully you'll add both
