Sorry Rman, but I think for an ingame graffiti on the side of a bus, we'll need something less intellectual, but more importantly, much shorter. I probably won't be able to fit that text in the texture without violating the nyqvist frequency (i.e. each letter becomes a few blurry pixels).

Meanwhile, guess the body :)

Like indicated, I thought they would inspire better, not that they were offered as contenders in any sense. Guess that didn't work out. But opening up a clarifying dialog like this could bear fruit. :)

Shorter for sure. :3

Egoic or ideological (excluding smut or befuddling slang, for obvious reasons) would seem the remaining areas to focus on. :hmm:

Which leaves graffiti with language falling into 2 basic types that could serve meaning, if there is to be any, as I have seen from NYC to LA.

The 2 types, with concision, represented by these examples:

Killroy was here.
Resist to exist.
In a sense, I think, the graffiti could be a way of getting at a representation of the WZ Scav mindset, if having a serious meaning is a goal - or it can be an occasion for humor with the goal being not terribly serious at all.

Is any particular context written in stone beyond the practicality of pixels themselves ?

Does this track with useful specificity to better focus going forward, Jorzi ?

EDIT:

Thought some more on Scavengers, thier various natures and graffiti to what end.

In RL you have Scavs that range the gamut from the homeless, to survivalists, to junkers, to insurrectionists, to freegans. Some just trying to survive day to day, some trying to make buck, and some walking the talk of an ideology, peacefully or militantly. I would imagine the graffiti of each differing and refelective of where they were coming from - thier worldview if you will.

I guess what I'm getting at is that if the graffiti is to have any visceral meaning it would be connected to a particular understanding of what WZ Scavs are all about - thier profile. And what is that profile in the Pumpkin canon beyond the words "barbarians" and "marauders" - from The Project PoV ? Again, this presumes the graffiti based in story world meaning, serious or otherwise. Perhaps it could be based instead on what tickles players fancy irrespective of any story world Scav portrayal correlation.

Mulling over this subject of scav graffiti triggered what I call my MAIN process (Motivation, Action, Imagination, Nerve) resulting in a short story in which the following played a part; literally, metaphorically and graphically.

~ Resist to exist.

~ Frak links !

~ All flesh.

~ Scav on !

That done, exiting stage left. :D

I will still look at the graffiti stuff, but for now, more cyborgs.

Ahhh ... there's that smell again. Properly-functioning neurons running at optimal temperature.

Smells of hot pockets and diet soda. Delightful. Nice going, Jorzi. :D

Lord knows stock cyborgs have been needing a major facelift since day one and this would do it. :3

This also makes me think that WZ Cyborgs most closely resemble conceptually the recent reboot of "Robo Cop". I know we touched upon this before. "Robocop" was the result of a whole human tore up onto death in a firefight then restored and augmented from basically a head and torso. So, again, I wonder about the storytelling trope or rationale for WZ's wholesale production of standard issue borgs from what looks like amputated paraplegics. Not that this bothers me. On the contrary, it makes for some intriguing narrative. :hmm: (Which I first explored in 3 origin short stories involving Dr. Reed's son, Jason.)

So you're basically saying I can totally get away with the arm-replacing cannon, as long as I say that heavy gunners are veteran cyborgs that have already had one or more limbs blown to pieces? In fact, this could also explain why super cyborgs aren't that much larger than a normal cyborg.

Sure. Why not ? Makes sense and would naturally work into some of the gaps Pumpkin left us in thier on the record, sparse and scattered, Timeline / Backstory details. Left to our imagination to fill out - with thier official blessing, I might add. :3

These gaps I refer to, Aubergine and I spent months identifying and from there the expanded WZ Timeline / Backtory was built. Built around everything we could find that Pumpkin specifically gave us, thus enabling us to pinpoint the gaps and from there the fills that would be consistent, and make sense, with that extant canon, while simultaneously expanding possibilities going forward. (And mind you, there was a deliberate effort NOT to invoke the Many Worlds Theory Sci Fi trope ;) )

I'll go ahead and work the narrative details into the expanded Timeline / Backstory and post the next revision when I get back from my Big Apple sojourn, after 9/24, just because it's so intriguing. :) (Last iteration: Part A of Expanded Timeline and Part B )

A quick drafting before inclusion in the expanded timeline backstory...

Based on what Pumpkin gave us in thier Cyborg Soldier concepts (timeline and comic book) we postulate 2 streams feeding the borg army creation.

1.) Vets of conflicts losing limbs and opting for tech augmentation. This we just spoke to and is pretty straight forward.

And the more provocative of the two.

2.) H+ recruited soldiers, commited Transhumanists, perfectly whole, essentially volunteering for military oriented tech augmentation..... and all that implies.

As an aside, and from a storytelling angle, the whole "volunteer" ethical component would apply from inception in 2080 up until the 2090s and Dr. Reed's NEXUS army formation, built from both his hegemon over other factions and Scavenger cullings, neither voluntary. The Project would naturally always remain voluntary.

Hope I don't provoke Jorzi's ire by expressing my thoughts on your last post, Goth. Thoughts that trancend speaking strictly to just the art....

I wonder if we have such a majority audience these days that would make use of it. :hmm:

I myself like bbs with that feature because it offers a participation opportunity for those not inclined to posting what's on thier mind. :3

However, when I look at the results, so far, of the recent poll on "Fav MP Type Map" it strikes me as yet another example that makes me think most fans who visit these days have no sense at all of having "skin in the game", to borrow Warren Buffet's vivid expression. :ninja:

Without that genuine sensibility in play, what would be the motivation to make any gesture of caring, one way or another, about anything that is posted by the active, communicative, few ?

I'm sure Jorzi will forgive us for the sidebar. ;)

And I agree with you regarding "having skin in the game". It's an expression of frustration, sadness, and encouragement for others to become more involved all in one statement. The idiom "We're still here" was never more appropriate.

C'mon, folks. Jorzi, Berg, and others are still making great art. Rman is still telling great stories. Mapmakers are still making maps. The Lobby is still open. I'm still working on Campaign 4. The Dev Team are still commiting patches and improvements to the 3.2 branch. We're still here. Please get involved!
