Awesome concept art by Corporal Punishment 8)
Needless to say they will speed up the modeling process quite a bit.
He also wrote some interesting reading about the design process.
The heavy machine gun was actually very simple, the original model clearly meant an old Maxim/Vickers water cooled MG. I basically drew the same details on the turret that you used on the MG turret. All I added was the case ejector. It would rotate when the barrel is tilted so that the slots match the angle of the barrel. On the weapon itself, I put the barrel low in the cooling mantle as opposed to the original model. This is how it was with the Maxim/Vickers and it will enhance convection in the cooling liquid.

The twin machine gun gave me hell. The original model just wouldn't work. I had to choose one of two options: Either go with the original proportions or with the original look. I chose the proportions. Here's why: The original model had both weapons set in one casing that probably was meant to be a cylindrical cover like the Panzerkampfwagen 1 had (by the way the only twin MG tank ever built), but it was modeled too long, a cubic bearing rather, it would have been near impossible to armor the seam between turret embrasure and weapon bearing. So, I went for the more modern option to draw a cut away turret with one single gun weapon pod to each side. Except for the two guns to be a little further apart, it keeps all proportions.

At first I thought there was not much to be done about the sensor. It's a radar dish, right? But I ended up with quite some ideas. I changed the dish to a lentiod sender/receiver antenna array most modern military radar systems have. Next, I came to believe the original textures indicated bearings holding the mast, so I did them in geometry and added a rotational shaft. Then there's a groove in the turret base in which the connections from the antenna to the computers inside the turret can be hidden. These can either be wire loops or sliding contacts. Last thing is a set of counterweights at the back of the mast to balance the whole thing and help tilting it.

A small update.
Finished most of the twin mg. Lowpoly is 114 tris, hard to reduce further since it needs two barrels and stuff, but i guess it doesn't get built in such huge numbers either.

Its very good modeling, but why you say Tris 114,W2100 dosent use normal polygons?

Actually, tris are normal. Eventually, everything gets converted into tris.

Great models!

Yes, kuky is right, before you can shove any geometry into the graphics card for processing it has to be converted into triangles because the graphics card won't accept anything else. Any gpu accelerated 3d you see on the screen is rasterized triangles. Likewise the gpu only accepts square images of resolution 2^n x 2^n, if they aren't, they will be crammed/stretched into it before being stored in the gpu memory.
The exception is opencl/cuda accelerated raytracing which allow any planar or non-planar surface to be rendered.

Anyway, thanks for the encouragement :)

Oh and they're only edible if you 3d print them in chocolate :lol2:

Well, in campaign I usually replace most of existing units by this weapon after researching it and build around 50 new vehicles...

Anyway, very nice model, like always. ;-)

Don't worry, campaign is not the problem, high-oil multiplayer games are far more demanding.
Oh and thanks :)

wow, great! nothing to add. :)

P.S. mb.... you can add a "bridge" between barrels. +12 tris

Mangust I'm not sure about how you think it should be. Maybe you could do a paintover or something? I don't really know how i'd do it so it looks good.

Jorzo, I got one proposal...
Can you test it ingame, with textures!
Because its should be in your procedure so that you can probavly discover some bugs if there will be bugs.
Also test it in way that you produce so many of this units with your model of twin machine guns!
When it starts to lag, then just write the reply with your pc configuration(What OS,RAM,VRAM,GHZ,how many cores,etc...)
I writed this so fast that is incredible...Full of ideas!
Test it and then report the results!
Il crush you!If i get crushed,il crush you twice stronger!!If you crush me again, then il blow up your PC!!
