I won't worry anymore about splitting off this direction of discussion to its own dedicated thread - it will be done if the moderators deem it best and that works fine.
Sometimes it is best to quote a post in it's entirety, so I will.

As for MP...
Think about it... When you are playing MP, is everybody the Project fighting against each other ?
What is sorta happening is that in everyone's mind THEY are the Project Forces and those they are fighting against are one of the Factions. Imagination, it's a wonderful thing.
What we have here is the beginnings of something - the option to choose a Faction to play as with the simple selection of a symbol. Not the same, by any means, as distinct Faction Mechanics but it is a step in that direction. Ultimately what will happen, I think, is that the popularity will split into 2: some will be committed to playing
The Project and the other camp will savor playing the role of
Nexus. We already have a Nexus only game play mechanic: the
Intruder Virus....
something to expand on, counter measure wise, for the Project.... then you'd have the start of distinct Faction play mechanics

Perhaps I should be more specific with my understanding of Faction GPMs.
Faction play in an RTS provides for the choice at the outset of the game for a player to RP a faction and all subsequent mechanics support those distinctions between factions.
I think if ever WZ evolves MP Faction play along those lines it will be built out of
T-4. Going back over the original game and re-building ain't gonna happen and likely shouldn't.
Coincidentally, Member Tucalipe has just started posting a story called
Warzone 2102: Omega Squadron which picks-up where the original campaign scenario ended. You can jump to it from here:

My comment to his story dovetails here so I will quote:

Enjoyable & inspiring.

Interesting touches with the details like, for example, the Major being female. It's very generous of you to be explicitly receptive to sub-plot suggestions. I'll think upon that as you continue to grow the story. It is one of my fundamental tenets that
story is the Prime Mover in
anything that manifests as tangible reality.
This story, even just in its beginning, is suggestive of how to proceed with a sequel to the original campaign....
In the original, a Nexus special ability was
self-repair, here you are going down the road of
self-assemblage from bits and pieces found in the environment. The father of Cybernetics was the genius John von Neumann and he also postulated this ability in the 1940s and called it
Self-Replicating Automata.
This would also factor into creating distinct Faction MP game play...
Very promising start, Tucalipe.

There would appear to be a spontaneous convergence of thinking surrounding various notions of how WZ MP Faction Game Play could possibly evolve from current reality.
