2.3.2 has been released!
Re: 2.3.2 has been released!
Nice, finally the alternative control style (starcraft like) is really usable without annoying camera movement! Thanks a lot!
Re: 2.3.2 has been released!
Great job on the burning oil minimap display! Now I won't have to constantly watch oil before I can build a derrick on it!

Though I am not saying that most of the maps without them built being submitted to Addons are predicated on such credible design reasons and not just pure negligence or sloth.
It takes less than 5 minutes per player to build one so at the most your looking at 40 minutes additional work (for 8 player map, 20 minutes tops for a 4 player map) which ain't chit in the overall time spent on making a quality map (non-cookie-cutter, not pancake flat, to start).
So I believe the criteria for such lofty inclusions could use some objective refinement, articulation and transparency otherwise it suggests a predilection for cronyism / brown-nosing.

There are legit, valid, design reasons for not building advanced bases.cybersphinx wrote:A lot of maps don't have bases, and imo that's a prerequisite for including new maps (though the included Cockate and Cockpit don't have them...).

Pretty sweet update!

Oh, man, I shoulda done more testing on that fire damage change.hao wrote:I've just seen the AI constructing incendiary mortar pits that kill 5 of my full-healthed tiger hover tanks with one shot. Are they *supposed* to do that? o.O (i already had a couple of thermal armod upgrades).
Could you name one?KukY wrote:Well, it should be. I am also suprised that it is in-game... There are lots of maps that are better than it, and aren't included with the game...
Pyramidal is tied for highest rated map on Addons right now.
What we as developers consider quality include factors such as availability of advanced bases, as cybersphinx mentions, and also interesting terrain, and sane amounts of oil.
Re: 2.3.2 has been released!
Is there a technical reason for still showing "-T2" and "-T3" in the map list?
My game handle is Cosmic Raven or Cosmic Raven 68
Re: 2.3.2 has been released!
Nope. I fixed it, though. In r11303. I think we're going to push out a new release that fixes this bug.hao wrote:I've just seen the AI constructing incendiary mortar pits that kill 5 of my full-healthed tiger hover tanks with one shot. Yeah, so you know you're in T2 or T3 mode. Especially if other users are joining your multiplayer game, they should see that it's T2 or T3.KenAlcock wrote:Is there a technical reason for still showing "-T2" and "-T3" in the map list?
Re: 2.3.2 has been released!
Excuse me, but that rating shouldn't mean much, as there are 2 persons, Daltx and effigy, that are actively rating the maps, and several votes by some other people. IMO, that kind of rating doesn't mean much.Zarel wrote:Pyramidal is tied for highest rated map on Addons right now.
Well, if one factor of the map is interesting, while other isn't, the map can be edited so it suites requests you devs have.Zarel wrote:What we as developers consider quality include factors such as availability of advanced bases, as cybersphinx mentions, and also interesting terrain, and sane amounts of oil.
Also, why diffrent kinds of maps shouldn't be included with Wazone? To get hi-oil, water based, survival, 3vs1 challenge maps, people have to download those maps. Currently, all of the maps included with Warzone aren't really special. Some diffrences in them could be useful.
Re: 2.3.2 has been released!
Map inclusion is currently rather arbitrary. It basically boils down to one developer pushing for a map, and no developers actively disliking it for any particular reason. We might find a better way to do this later. If you think choosing Pyramidal was weird or wrong, blame me for loving it.

Still, KukY raises a fair number of valid points that are not at all difficult to address if there is a basic will to do so.
Perhaps a cogent discussion, in a dedicated thread, towards articulating a set of objective, transparent, map excellence baseline criteria or metrics would be a useful enterprise for all with vested interests in the continued robust evolution of WZ in all its many facets as a game and the active community engaged inclusive.
It certainly couldn't hurt, I would think. And bandwidth would be as much a non-factor as distro inclusion (at least at this stage).
After all, it's well documented that parochial or insular hegemony breeds, at best, a conforming mediocrity along with generous dollops of inequity aversion by those most able to actively advance the cause on many fronts well into the future who would not be herded like a flock of sheep.

That's refreshingly honest. Can't fault that one bit.Per wrote:Map inclusion is currently rather arbitrary. I agree, a dedicated thread for all active members to support there map(s) of choice would be nice for this. If too many maps are mentioned a poll could be included.

I see 2 fine posts submitted while writing my response. I'll let my response stand though I'm tempted to speak to the "plain English with complete thought" reference - but won't.
Ahhh.... wait.... I just thought of 2 rather settled historical examples that may serve us here; the trial of Socrates in its full context and Galileo's defense of Copernicus in 1616 before the Catholic Church in Rome and subsequent events.

Hmmm. admittedly I'm doing a lot of thought compression in that single sentence that could, & has, filled volumes. Let me think of a particular cogent example that would illustrate concretely over the general terms I used ........effigy wrote:come again?

Frankly, I more often than not don't get what RV says, but I do look up the words to interpret his cryptic communication better.
