What do you find annoying about the BETA ?
Re: What do you find annoying about the BETA ?
The latest NTW mod hast mines included and I have to say this is quite a nice feature. the only problem is that all mines are available right away. They should be locked with some major research.
And talking about the Scavenger units, I would love to have them also fully included into the real game. I really like the idea of starting the game in a
low tec world. The Scavenger level should be a pretechnology kind of level. And only with some initial kind of research the whole tree opens up. Starting with viper body...
Concerning the Force fire of artillery units, a simple but effective solution would be to limit the shots of the artillery, like this: Set Artillery to force fire on a specific groud -> Artillery fires 5-10 shots -> and returns to normal mod again. That way you either always have to check and reactivate the artillery, or it automatically returns to normal fire mod after some time.
Maybe you could add some cool down time, like 30sec or so, before you could reactivate the force fire.
And finally, is it possible to add more research slots to the game or is the max research options limited? Would it be possible to devide the research options into different buildings, like scavenger research for low tec things, a.s.o.?

i dont know if its anoying with the beta or the game itselft, but is there a way to tile the images for rock walls, the ones mostly on vertical scale, insted of streching them...??? i think this will enhance the hole visual experience.

* If you make sure that when you do your Gray Scale HM you clearly demarcate the height level for what you set your Map pref-parameters in EW this won't happen. ie.... you paint 3 distinct shades of gray for map that will be 0= sea level and 3 in verticle height... that stretching won't happen. If you only paint 1 shade of Gray for height and set your Map prefs for 3 then it will stretch.winsrp wrote: i dont know if its anoying with the beta or the game itselft, but is there a way to tile the images for rock walls, the ones mostly on vertical scale, insted of streching them...??? i think this will enhance the hole visual experience.
* BTW - any relation to "Winship" from the original Pumpkin BBs ?

Sorry to dissapoint you dude, but no.Rman Virgil wrote: * BTW - any relation to "Winship" from the original Pumpkin BBs ?
Anyway, ill start helping the devs once i get the hang of how the program works. I have several years as a programmer and 3d studio modeler, so, once we can do high poli 3d models, or, at least use high quality texture, this game will get very very interesting, but as a mod i hope to share with the comunity of course, and also i intend to change the way the current research tree works and make it a bit more logical.
Still hopping one of the devs gets his hands on a radar jammer (fog of war maker) kind of weapon, to make this game even cooler.

* Alright then. Winship was a kwel dude and some of what you've written in your posts reminded me of him.
* Pumpkin built a whole "ECM" (Elect Counter Measure) schema that was never implemented and I believe Per started working on doing so a few months ago.Anyway, ill start helping the devs once i get the hang of how the program works. * I myself favor a "C41" implementation as part of a "Dominant Battlespace Knowledge" GPM over "Jammers / ECM types" of GPM 'cause I basically consider it more effective in a 21st century engagement context which tends to high velocity Asymetric conflicts and other 4G Doctrine - plus it's never been done in an RTS before which makes it even more attractive. But that's just one PoV amongst many.

Re: What do you find annoying about the BETA ?
Classic exploit you can use in Skirmish against CPU is to build a radar tower of some kind, then a few ripple missile launchers (doesnt take much research to get these), build a few AA for safety.
Then move slightly offscreen and repeat the above.
The issue is the range of the ripple missile launchers, they are insane (actually think the howitzer and the hellstorms etc have just as long range too, but are not as effective weapons). No map is actually big enough not to be covered by them. So all you have to do is get a radar tower protected and they ALL fire on targets. It looks awesome watching a few hundred missiles fly across the screen from the other side of the map, but its a little OTT
Its much like the C&C gun turret exploit where u just kept building gun turrets next to each other up to the opponents base.
If possible i'd fix the launch radius of the long range weapons to a little less then THE ENTIRE MAP

Being the lead tester at eidos at the time, when you were working on the Warzone/Deliverance project, was there a #1 pet-peeve in the game that you remember frustrating your team of testers?
Just extremely morbidly curious

My god my memories of back then have long since disappeared thanks to the vodkaChojun wrote:Being the lead tester at eidos at the time, when you were working on the Warzone/Deliverance project, was there a #1 pet-peeve in the game that you remember frustrating your team of testers?

I recall some of the funnier moments in development, like the producer shipped over from the US to `help` who tried to use Babelfish to translate the game luckily it got properly localised
Re: What do you find annoying about the BETA ?
xD hahah that's awesome!
It's good to hear that Warzone escaped an "All your base are belong to us" equivalent.
In fact, I don't blame you for drowning your memories with a good bottle or two. Some of the code in the deep-down parts in 1.10 was pretty nasty, and I'm certain you had your hands full with the little annoying bugs, especially before the ship-date. O_O

Jay, I don't suppose you ever got to look at the original source code? Some of the comments that pumpkin left behind are quite funny. Others, I think they drank also.jaywalker_eidos wrote:My god my memories of back then have long since disappeared thanks to the vodkaChojun wrote:Being the lead tester at eidos at the time, when you were working on the Warzone/Deliverance project, was there a #1 pet-peeve in the game that you remember frustrating your team of testers?

HAHAH i never saw the source code but those quotes are classic.. love the heathrow one..
I remember a feature in the multiplayer chat that if an `US` english word was typed in it autocorrected to UK english. Cant remember if that survived to release or not tho It upset our US office

Re: What do you find annoying about the BETA ?
Well i've been using AIvolution in the new beta, and having constant AI allies is pretty cool, however, the pathfinding of ALL units, yours and the AI's is completely retarded. I mean, i have to babysit units in order to get them out of the factory for pete's sake!
I don't know if this is the Beta or Aivolution, but it got to the point where every AI player had a huge amount of units that would wipe the floor with me, yet EVERY AI unit just froze. and i couldn't coax them to move, VTOL attacks, Arty and even a Dragon Tracks Hydra Rush couldn't get them to move....
BTW, i really like seeing the Hydra tanks engaging two targets at once, and Mantis Halftrax Hydra 2x(Mob Arty Piece) make excellent choke point holders, but unfortunately every Hydra tank is ungodly slow, even if the secondary weapon is a basic MG *sigh*
Also, i can't get the music player to work, even though i've put all the files in the right spots and the playlist file is properly filled out
In addition, the Warzone maps, saves and music folder is in "C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Warzone 2100 2.1" instead of the My Documents folder.
Finally, having the map image that appears display each player numbers start location would be an excellent feature.

Re: What do you find annoying about the BETA ?
As NucNut said, AI builds massive amounts of units and then just freezes.
in my case they freeze mostly in two cases
1) the repair units block their way so the AI units cant move anymore.
2) the AI wipes out my initial base, and then it wont come to look for my other bases that i´ve managed to build. With some provoking, it eventually strikes back.
here is a sample image of the repair units blocking all the AI´s units.

there should be some "priority" for units motion, e.g. repair units should always step aside if a battle tank touches it.
