WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
I am not sure if this is a bug and I was unable to log into one of the bug trackers, but Warzone 3.3.0 is stuttering when scrolling over the map even at perfect constant 60 fps and no matter if I tun on the in game Vsync or if I use the Nvidia vsync via the Nvidia control panel. I haven't noticed this in the older version. I am running WZ on a gaming PC via Windows 10 with my 8700K CPU and an Nvidia 1070 ti GPU. Video here: https://youtu.be/dpr1L--nwDo
Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
Please hit Enter/Return to open the Chat box, and then type "showfps" (without the quotes) and hit Enter/Return to enable the game's built-in FPS display. Does it differ from the 60fps you are expecting?
Does this happen consistently, including when there are no weather effects present?
Are you using the portable build or the full installer?
What older version are you comparing to?

Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
Hey pastdue,
* the in game fps counter does not differ from other fps counters
* the stutter appears consistently. I havent seen any rain, snow or fog since ages btw
* this happens to the portable build and the full install too
* I can not remember which older version it was but I got it from wz2100.net yesterday
* stutter in full install looks the same: https://youtu.be/bc9zJanTUgY
Tnx for help

Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
Are you using the keyboard to move the camera? Or the mouse?
Does the stuttering change at all depending on which you use?

It makes no difference if I use the keyboard or mouse.
Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
Are you using fullscreen or windowed mode? What resolution / window size?
(Have you tried using the other option to see if it changes the stuttering? What about using a smaller resolution / window size to see if it changes it?)
Are you using any Display Scaling settings in the game? (Although this shouldn't have an impact.)
I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this - I am unable to reproduce it locally.

Hey pastdue
* I play in fullscreen mode
* I tried mainly 1280 * 720 and 1920 * 1080
* a smaller resolution in full screen does not help
* nvidia dsr is off and beside this I don't know
* In window mode it looks okay

Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
Very interesting.
Is it sufficient for now to run the game in windowed mode and simply maximize the window? (The maximize button in the window toolbar should work in the new version.)
If that makes the UI too small, you can use the new "Display Scale" option in the Options > Video Options menu to increase the size of the user interface.
We could also add an option to support SDL's built-in SDL_WINDOW_FULLSCREEN_DESKTOP mode. (This is all that's supported on macOS at the moment, but we can add the ability to support it on other OSes.) I suspect that would allow you to "fullscreen" it (essentially as a borderless window) without whatever is happening when you try to use the "classic" fullscreen mode that includes a videomode change.
Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
I am gaming on a windows 10 pc because my imac died with a loud bang after only three years. Using windowed mode maximized works perfect. I set the display scale to 150 % too. A borderless maxed window option would be nice of course. Screen resolutions higher than 1920 * 1080 still show an increasing 3d distortion that hurts the eyes. But that's a very old issue. Tnx for help.
Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
The higher you set the Display Scale, the less significant that distortion should be.themac wrote: ↑25 Mar 2019, 18:57 I am gaming on a windows 10 pc because my imac died with a loud bang after only three years. Ah you are right. The display scale is a great feature.
Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
Odd, just tested on a 1060, and it don't do that.
I am using 23.21.13.9124 drivers.

Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
I tested a bit more in windowed mode but the stuttering still can be heavy. Not sure if this is related to the old and well known NulBot interruptions. Very annoying to look at btw. https://youtu.be/4cZrL3ZHQr4
Re: WZ stuttering at constant 60 fps
Could you test the latest Windows development builds, to see if there's any difference?

Have you tried nvidia's vsync(fast) option?
