Repainted Jammer model
Re: Repainted Jammer model
The appearance of metal is more a result of reflection and brushes/scratches. I guess there is no proper "gold" color and shifting the hue to some yellow value often makes textures look weird. A solution might be to play around with contrast and saturation of the texture. I add a little modification where I changed a few details in the texture, one in gray, the other in a "golden/brass" appearance. Not sure if it looks any good in-game and fixes the issue, though.

You have a point. There doesn't seem to be an easy solution to this apart from making it some hi-vis neon color.Forgon wrote: I'm afraid your design provides insufficient contrast.
How would you spot these thin red wires in an instant from a distance greater than or equal to 5000?

color no good. change design to not look same.

Here is a comparison of cnceo's model with the current model in the design screen and at various distances:
I dislike cnceo's vertical black bars in the center of each Jammer turret side.- Attachments

Re: Repainted Jammer model
I agree, not sure what I thought when I did that. But I can remove fix that easily. However, I think the problem persists no matter what we do to that texture. Even if we do something really funky, like inverting the color scheme, which I did just for curiosity. Somehow there seems to be no way these models can be clearly distinguished for a distance > 500.Forgon wrote:I dislike cnceo's vertical black bars in the center of each Jammer turret side.

Are those some higher res textures?

Re: Repainted Jammer model
Do they show up as the higer resolution in-game?

Re: Repainted Jammer model
You can only fit so much into the texture size available if you look at the texture on the texture file for this model you will see it won't change resolutions unless you make the image bigger and the actual texture for the turret bigger
Re: Repainted Jammer model
The texture would fit to the resolution of Forgon's page-17-droid-weapons.png file, so technically yes, it would show up.
However, since the models are very small you would only see a difference when you zoom in very closely.

If you need to get a better resolution you will need to fix the pie file to point at a larger better texture.Berg wrote:unless you make the image bigger and the actual texture for the turret bigger
So make a dedicated texture for the model and edit the pie file to point to it.
As for zooming in that part is a rare event performed by people who don’t actually want to war they are model modellers.
So for the rare event people you can do the image enlarging methods.
Re: Repainted Jammer model
Ack, no more yellow. It is just ugly.
I agree with the person that said that we should just make a new model if we want to be able to make it more obvious which unit/structure is what.
Perhaps Berg or Jorzi or Mangust can help there?
All these changes are pretty... well, useless at high zoom levels. Things are just too small to get fine detail.
Could also have icons much like Supreme Commander does when you zoom out, so you can easier see what the unit is.

Re: Repainted Jammer model
The easiest to make design of this tower would be something like this... but it doesn't look so "brutal" as other wz's radars.
The best examples I googled are naval, imho:
What design do you prefer?
The current one is just a cellphone jammer
p.s. If you don't sure how it should look like, I can just mix designs as I want to make a unique radar tower.
