Models By Hesterax

Post by Hesterax »

I decided to post a few models that I have made on Blender. I only started using blender a couple of months ago so don't expect much.

Still don't know how to texture though. XD

Well, thanks...

Here is a rendered image of a command center I made (modeled), I prefer the dome to the original hexagonal shape of the head.

Just a shot at turret making, mostly did this to practice making gun barrels:

Octagonal barrel instead of the original diamond shaped one. Also added a shallow dip for a bit of detail.

By the way, do you have any possible guides for texturing, the blender guide makes no sense to me.

A go on the research facility:

Here's a pretty ok video I think ( I watched it without sound but it looks like it covers most stuff) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2-FfB9kRmE

So the thing is, you need to think of it like cuting up the model so you can lay the parts onto a flat paper.
So first you create the seams (ctrl+E for the edge menu)
Then you need to make sure you have an uv/image editor window open in your interface (it works without but you can't see what happens)
Now you just press "U" and then you choose unwrap. Wireframes of your flattened and cut mesh should appear in the UV/image editor window.

Tried it on a few simple meshes, works but I don't have Photoshop. Are there any alternatives or is it possible to texture inside blender? :? Mainly been focusing on learning how to animate so far.

I use mostly GIMP, but you can also draw directly inside blender, both in the UV/image editor and directly onto the 3d model (useful for blurring out seams). Beside that there's also Krita and Paint.NET(windows only, limited but easy to use).

As for your last comment: Remember that anything capable of producing images onto the screen can be used for texturing. I sometimes even "model" my textures in blender, using the rendered images as textures (this is very similar to baking).
