This is why some features aren't implemented: http://forums.wz2100.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=7490&view=unread#p87241

I'm planning a web-based old school RPG. like FF, chrono trigger, dragon warrior, etc... While players will play small squads of 3-7 character each, they will all share the same world. So while you might play as elfs fighting orcs, someone else might as well play as orcs fighting elfs. Hope it make sens.

So I didn't made that map generator for warzone2100. I just tough it could give ideas to some map maker. If someone is interested.
Heretic 2.3 improver and proud of it.

Perlin Noise can be used to create some very nice terrain, just have to know how to use it right. Perlin can also be used to create textures as well, most commonly wood.

Visually appealing is a more accurate description.

Note that for WZ, we need an interesting gameplay much more than nice visuals.

As mentioned, I found Perlin noise to be useful for certain things - such as random opening of cliffs, by doing a Perlin noise blur.

But try to use above Perlin noise texture (from Wikipedia) for a map. It makes pretty rolling hills, but not for interesting gameplay situations. Maybe good for a NTW map, these maps usually are totally flat anyway, rolling hills would already be an improvement.

I do consider the diorama generated maps quite interesting; I don't like ASP much though.
