The Doc's Bio Lab for Scav Experiments - & other oddities.

At least for my expanded WZ backstory, post the false flag events that culminated in the end of CAM 3. O_o

I look forward to more verbose disclosure of the backstory you are working on. Together with contributions from others, it can provide WZ with an extensive fanonical universe.

My next oddity will bust open the post WZ 2100 backstory in a major way and be a bit more verbose... but not too. ;) Gotta finish the accompaning graphic first. These help make the story line more "real" and fun for me. :hmm:

Thanks Goth. :) Am. It's fun. :3

The next oddity to post will take a few more days. The location is somewhere in the Yuccatan Penninsula.

In the meanwhile...

In the first oddity you really couldn't see details of the Doc and his 2 experimental scav subjects so here are some close-up portraits.

~ The young female scav in war paint. Though you only see scav blokes in the game, there gotta be female warriors, I think.

~ The older male scav bloodied when captured by the Doc's minions - which is why he's in the healing chamber after the Doc did some work on him. And, if you look closely at the Doc's 2 console screens in the first graphic you'll see he's running vid of his minions raid OP on the scav encampment (taken from the WZ game world).

~ Lastly, a portrait shot of the Doc without his synaptic link command and control helmet which he almost always wears outside his bio lab.

Yep, I noticed the Scav Choppers and Transporter in-flight. Nice touch, indeed. :D

That's actually a pretty accurate looking Dr Reed!

Those are really cool. I like 'em much more than the green comp avatar of the cut-scenes. Thanks for posting ! :3

Let me take this opportunity to give a little insight into what I'm trying to do with my odd back story post 2100.

There is a powerful theme in Sci Fi stories and filmed drama. It's a SF theme I've hankered to explore and this would be my first baby steps in that direction. It's a theme many here could relate to as fans of the reboot of BSG. But BSG's exploration is but one variant out of a multitude. WZ already hints at it in its own context but it's not fully developed, I believe.

That theme is briefly described as the quest for transcendence.

We'll see if I'm up to it in the end. Have to give it a shot to find out. :hmm:

My understanding is that The Collective were all about transcendence as well? From what I've come to understand about that faction, they were basically transhumanists (h+) pre-Collapse and post-Collapse obviously welcomed NEXUS. What I don't fully understand is why did NEXUS happily nuke them at end of beta cam?

Just found another pic of Dr. Reed - and note the "Cut-price human experiments are "completely safe" claims V???? Research", top-right...

Another sweet pic of the Doctor. :3 Thanks again. :)

=======>

Transhumanism is central to the grand theme. Nexus eradicating the Collective can be explained. The Doctor himself is the arch transhumanist.

Here, though, is the direction I'm moving in to create the great division and grand conflict.

First the concept of transcendence I'm working from:
A state of being or existence above and beyond the limits of material experience.
And transhumanism:
Humanity committed to a biologically augmented existence through technology.
And the main great divide between the two falls within what is termed existential risks

So here are the over-arching themes and divisions as I'm looking at them per faction.

~ The Doc and his minions are the epitome of transhummanism.

~ The Project is divided between a transhumanist sect less radical than the Docs and transcendental sect.

~ The Scavs are split between utilitarianism and transcendentalism.

Clarification on why Nexus destroyed the Collective, as I see it.

Transhumanism comes in various guises. The Collective, while embracing bio augmentation through tech, was also commited to the collectivist ethic which emphasizes the dependence of human beings on others (in contrast to independence or interdependence). While the Doctor (& Nexus, by extention, his instument to impose his will and agenda), is an arch transhumanist on the one hand, also a brilliant sociopath / meglomaniac. In the Doctor's mind, independence from others is prime. Having outlived their usefulness, the Collective had to go, their base society being completely incompatible with the Doctor's mind-set and goals.

========>

Another way of looking at Transcendence, further distinguishing it from Transhumanism, is in this definition:
The quest for transcendence, put simply, is the search for something beyond ourselves, the belief that outside the boundries of everyday living something greater exists....
.
Another related point: Transhumanism has a streak of narcissism that is absent in the quest for Transcendence. Along with his other psychological traits, the Doctor is a narcissist of epic proportions. All told makes for a very compelling villian.

Personally, I thought that NEXUS began seeing the Project as a growing threat, to the point where NEXUS was willing to sacrifice the Collective if it meant putting an end to said threat.

Two birds with one stone and expanded dramatic effect ?

Maybe, though I was just speaking from the point of view of the player.
