Game is running ridiculously slow (main menu also)

Post by Serman »

I have seen the FAQ for this problem, but it just doesn't make any sense.

First of all, it was running fine when my computer ran Windows XP.
But then, once I installed Windows Vista, it started running ridiculously slow, at like 2 FPS both menu screen and in-game.

I have tried turning off shadows, updating my driver (it was already up to date), and worst of all

I even upgraded my RAM to 2 GB yesterday! (not only for warzone, i upgraded my ram so my PC could run Vista better.)

It is still running slow, and I don't know what to do.
Same thing applies to all third-party mods such as Grim's and Delphinio's GFX.

This "Open GL software fallback" as you call it needs to be fixed pronto.

System specs:

- OS: Windows Vista Ultimate Edition
- Type: 32 bit
- RAM: 2 GIGABITS
- Video Card: ATI Radeon X1300 Series
- Processor: AMD Athlon 64 Dual-Core 4000+
- Speed: 2.10 GiGaHertz

Hi!

I had the same problem with Vista:
index.php?topic=390.30

A driver update should have fixed it.

That worked with one of the two computers. The second still runs WZ very slowly:
ATI Raedon X1150
Maybe we have to wait for better drivers. :-(
Life is real - unless declared as integer.

Well i had the same problem, but i just updated my monitor driver, but it did little to improve my gameplay.

all it did was increase the framerate by 2 times, but its still rather slow.

it still goes at about 4 or 5 fps...  :-[

???
Why would updating your monitor's drivers do anything to improve the fps?
Or do you mean you updated the video drivers?
They are different things.
Do other openGL games work ok?

WZ has no real control over how it is accelerated, it just tells the system what it needs.  That is purely a vista & video driver issue.
So we can't fix that aspect of it.

Are you running the desktop in 32bit true color mode?
Try running in a window (--window command line option) and see if it is better.
Try turning off aero, and see if that works.
and it ends here.

Here we go...

- Ran Half-Life : Blue Shift in OpenGL, crashed as soon as I hit apply.
- Turned off Aero: No change.
- 32 bit color was already on.
- --window only made it even slower.
- I already updated my video card drivers but nothing happened, and for some reason updating my MONITOR drivers actually did something, but not much.

For some reason, your drivers are not updating correctly.
Be/log in as administrator.
Use add/remove to remove old drivers.
(reboot)
Then install the newest ATI drivers from http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
Then reboot when it says.
Now it should be setup to work fine.

If those fail also, check your event log for any errors or warnings, you may even have to try some older drivers.
But until you can get openGL to work on your system with other games, no use trying warzone.
and it ends here.

Your not getting openGL acceleration.  Try some older drivers.
For sound, which openAL version do you have?  Which sound card?
and it ends here.

Having the same problem here...except that 2.0.8 RC1 ran just fine, and only after updating to 2.0.8 did I experience the Warzone Slideshow.

To everyone experiencing a decrease in framerate between 2.0.8_rc1 and 2.0.8: We need your help to fix this.
Please test the attached snapshots from oldest (2741) to newest (2976) and report in which revision the framerate drops compared to the previous ones.

I am assuming everyone who have posted in this thread about the game being slower are running 2.0.8 or 2.0.9. I am doing some changes in svn trunk (future 2.1) that may also affect performance, so if you run that (if you do not know what I am talking about... you are probably not), then please specify the last revision it was fast in and which revision you are currently running.

Darn... Somehow I expected that...
Seems as if I linked against the wrong library again... Will fix it this evening or tomorrow.

UPDATE:

Newly built exes are attached.
