Radar minimap appearance
Radar minimap appearance
How should the radar minimap look?
Oil wells blink on the radar. Should burning oil wells also blink or not? (Burning oil wells don't blink patch, oil well dots on fire patch.)
Should the map look as it is now, or with dark lines showing where tanks can't go? Or different? (Dark lines where tanks can't go patch)
Left: Cliffs displayed. Right: Cliffs not displayed. Edit: Added animation. Compare the three pulsing oil wells on the right to the corresponding three on the left.

Re: Radar minimap appearance
I think burning oil wells should blink. On the other hand, I think that an oil well that's been blinking for a certain amount of time (say, five minutes) should stop.
As for cliffs, yeah, I think they should be displayed.

Re: Radar minimap appearance
I like the idear of showing the cliffs, but can't understand why you want to show that oil is burning

It's more to show when it's stopped burning, so that you know you can finally tell the truck you sent there to start building.Fastdeath wrote:I like the idear of showing the cliffs, but can't understand why you want to show that oil is burning
Re: Radar minimap appearance
I think a difference between burning and not burning oil wells makes sense, but I'm not entirely sure about the tiny static blip. Does the radar display still look good if the display of cliff edges is made slightly less obvious (ie not darken quite as much as in the patch)?
Re: Radar minimap appearance
I'd prefer to have a special option in game menu to choose what I like from this variants. I think that the game should be so much editable/configurable as it possible.

.
Marvelous. I voted for both Oil display and Cliffs Dark.
The only other thing I could hope for would be seeing my Combat Groups 1, 2. 3,... displayed and my being able to maneuver them via their Mini-Map Icon. One can indulge a dream now and then from way back.

ditto!!! would be awesome.
Re: Radar minimap appearance
I especially like the "cliffs dark"-feature, gives much more clarity to the map

Re: Radar minimap appearance
There is a problem with the "Oil wells — Burning wells don't pulse" option...
As you may or may not know...
The flashing pulses are CLICKABLE! (On the actual map, not mini map)
I randomly found this out one day, warzone has never been the same . (In a good way sorta...)
When the pulses are clicked on, a voice comments on what the pulse is referring to, e.g. "Oil" if clicking on an oil pulse, or "enemy base" for clicking on... an enemy base pulse...
There is also the "mission objective" pulse.
One last detail is, that once the pulse is clicked, it disappears from the map completely, and does not pulse anymore on the mini-map, instead its just one large cyan or red dot.

You are in contravention of The New Paradigm, you will be destroyed.
Re: Radar minimap appearance
Burning oil well radar blips now burn instead of pulsing, see bottom row of burning blips. (Disclaimer: I'm not a graphics designer.)
Cliffs are now shown, although a bit less dark than in the screenshot, patch.
And because someone voted for the "—————————————————— (Don't vote this...)" option, random lines will be drawn all over the screen during the game, and the game name will be changed from WZ2100 to "You shouldn't have voted this", patch.

Re: Radar minimap appearance
Since you commited those changes, WZ just failes to compile for me.Cyp wrote:Burning oil well radar blips now burn instead of pulsing, see bottom row of burning blips. (Disclaimer: I'm not a graphics designer.)

Were there any compiler error messages?KukY wrote:Since you commited those changes, WZ just failes to compile for me.Cyp wrote:Burning oil well radar blips now burn instead of pulsing, see bottom row of burning blips. (Disclaimer: I'm not a graphics designer.)
